EAST COAST... .It's the mecca of hip hop .. the originator of all .... if it wasn't for the East coast there would have been no hip hop or at least the way it is now.. BIG, NAS, JAY Z, MOS DEF, KRS1, WU TANG, RUN DMC, LL COOL J... and the list goes on and on

Both are the best. One is not better than the other. East coast tends to focus more on the Lyricism. West Coast Tends to focus on the beats and lyrics. It depends on who you listen to.
East coast but I am from Philly and I listen to the West coast. It really depends on where you are from. The west is more gangsta and they got funky beats. The east you gotta have a smooth flow and the beats are usually toned down compared to the west. I like both but with a gun to my head...East.

Don't get me wrong, I love the west, but Ifeel that the East takes it.
