What are some songs you think someone MUST here before they die?!

Question: I'll just give 10:

Roll Over Beethoven-Chuck Berry (wasn't the FIRST rock and roll song but it's definitely its 'Declaration of Independence')

He Stopped Loving Her Today-George Jones (one of the saddest, most emotionally complex songs ever written)

Diary-Bread (....other than this one)

Many Rivers to Cross-Jimmy Cliff (spiritual and life-affirming. I want this tune played at my funeral)

In My Life- The Beatles (picking a single Beatle's tune was difficult but this one's combination of melancholy and soul searching makes it one of their best)

Smells Like Teen Spirit-Nirvana (an adrenaline and hormone soaked rocker that makes me feel like a teenager whenever I sing along..)

I've Got the World on a String- Frank Sinatra (there may be a bouncier, more optimistic, ebullient song in recorded music history....but I don't know what it would be)

What'd I Say?-Ray Charles (if I have to explain WHY to you, then you must not have an ounce of soul in your whole body...)

I Got You (I Feel Good)-James Brown (rock crit Dave Marsh described the sound of this as Brown grabbing you by the lapels and shouting right in your face. I think that's pretty apt...)

Surf's Up-Beach Boys (it is NOT a "surfing song", the title is ironic. What it is is a song of sweeping grandeur and majesty that make it all the more the pity that so few have ever heard it. Brian Wilson's magnum opus...)

"Con te Partido" by Andrea Bocelli
It's Opera and it's in Italian, but it is the most beautiful song I've ever heard. It gives me goosebumps and the first time I heard it, I actually wept. And I didn't understand a word he was singing!
I finally found a translation of it, and the meaning is even more beautiful.
If you have an open-mind, I think that music can touch you in ways you never imagined. It crosses all language barriers and cultures.
I hope you will give it a listen. :)
By the way, I'm not an opera freak or anything. I love alternative and rock. Strange huh? :)

Happy Friday MCRchick!!

This is kind of tricky question for me to answer because it's hard to say what I think someone must hear since many of us share different tastes in music. I can say for example that everyone MUST rock out to I don't know, Scorpions but who's to say anyone would actually want to? It is kind of annoying to play a song you love and hear someone say "ehh that sucks".

There was a time when I wanted to show everyone and anyone how great 80's hair metal was but after realizing that many people just didn't agree with me, I gave up on speading hair metal awareness and focused mainly on myself. Now I don't even bother playing certain songs for people unless I know they like that particular style. Aside from that, I guess I'd just make sure that I heard every song *I* wanted to hear before I died. Exactly what song do I hope to hear? Any song I can, because I like to be as fully educated with music as possible.
