They are all considered rock but of a diffrerent subgenre.
boyslikegirls and all american rejects can be considered emo/pop-punk. avril lavigne is considered pop but she can be called punk too. 30 seconds to mars is prog rock. john mayer is softer more adult alternative. daughtry is considered just general rock or altrock and jack johnson is folk-rock/alt. many bands nowadays fall into the rock genre. there are so many different subgenres that they can just be referred to as alternative or rock bands/artists without getting too specific.

Yeah they aren't really rock bands, bands like ac dc are what I consider rock bands.
I'd consider them pop with some rockish sounds to them.
