What was better, post-Duane Allman Allman Brothers Band or Lynyrd Skynyrd?!
Question: Well it depends on what decade you are referring to? By 1973, the ABB were practically finished by the time Skynyrds first album was released. Skynyrd were the tops in the mid 70's (1974 - 1977), nobody could touch live! Then when they disbanded after the plane crash, the ABB regroup, and it pretty much sucked when they did from 1979 - 1982, they were just awful, no spirit or emotion at all in their records or live shows. But since the late 80's when both bands regouped I think the edge goes to the ABB. They put out some terrific musc with Warren hayes, and their last album, Hittin the Note with Derek Trucks was incredible. Also was the follow up live album. Skynyrd on the other hand released some pretty pedestrian albums in the 90's nothing really to memorable. Their last album Vicious Cycle is perhaps their best since Street Survivors. As for a live unit, it's pretty much a no frills, predictable set list which is what the fans want to hear.

I agree that Skynyrd was better once Duane Allman died. When he was alive, there was no comparison.
