Do Itunes benefit artists?!

Question: I dont get how if they do.

Answers: I dont get how if they do.

ITunes suck, even touh artist get $, but it won't count as a record album sale like from a store.

I don't understand the question....sorry

They get the majority of the sale money. I think that online sales should be considered as the main thing these days, cuz thats how most people are getting songs these days.

I am unsure too but i guess they just get less of the money cause Apple gets a cut of the sales.

i think they do, because they promote the artist, lets say when you start up itunes (store).. then someone likes the song [they let you preview it] and downloads it.
the money used from the person purchasing it would then in turn (a percent) would be given to the artist.

It has to...I dont know for sure...but I think it has to...Artist want their music on there...where people actually have to pay money to get the music...Instead of getting it free...This is just my guess though...

Edit: HNIC...great answer...but it goes both ways...if one or two songs from an album get purchased like crazy...it might be just as good as album sales...money wise at least...that ish leads to ring tone money...and thats what is getting average rappers big money...

No, because iTunes allows people to pick apart the masterpieces alot of talented artists put together..let's take Jay z's American Gangster for example..if he allowed iTunes to have that album up, fans would just buy the songs they wanted, and sure that might be convenient for them, but by not getting the whole album, their missing other pieces to the bigger story that was being told..Itunes benefits fans more than it does the artist IMO

i agree w/ HNIC cuz u only pick the songs u want insead of buying the whole album. sure there r people that buy the album in Itunes but the majority just buy the music to see wats in and wats out, 1 of the reasons u cant buy jay-z's american gangster

When I use iTunes I buy the whole album. Example: Audio Two's What More Can I Say album is not going to be in any store. iTunes got it, so that helps out Audio Two.

i dont think sooo....i dont think the internet to buy music is good for a artist period......itunes benefits mac, not the artist...like for real for real whose gonna buy a whole entire cd off of itunes? me personally i like to have a cd, the whole cd, skits interludes and alll and the cd booklet lol...people usaully download one or two of a artist song and how is that benefitting the artist? thats just like buying one of those single cds that use to be major way back when....i mean now in days it seem like you wont have a choose....but i know i wouldnt offer my music on itunes....i want you to go to the store to cop my sh*t lol!!!!!

yes cuz ppl have to pay to get the music and the artist(s) get the money from the sales, don't know how much of it though

As a once aspiring artist I really don't see the diff...Mechanical royalties would apply to downloads. So IMO it's the same. Artistically HNIC is right. Economically I'd have to say there are a lot of artists getting less than a dollar per CD sold so I don't really see how it's diff. Most rap artist get into these "screwtracts" That leaves the distributor with most of the money from every CD. Then the lable takes their cut. Then the artist has to pay back the money that went into making the album, paying back producers, studio time, writers etc. On top of that a lot of artist get advances, which has to be paid back. Just when you think it's over...They come along and get a percentage if not all of your publishing. It's a bigger issue than internet downloads basically.
