Do you think age plays a part in the music you listen to?!

Question: You always hear people say that only teens listen to metal because its a "phase" they're going through. But I've met PLENTY of metalheads who are well past they're adolescent years. And I really don't see my passion for metal as just being a phase.... at least I hope its not. Do you agree with this statement?

In my opinion age has nothing to do with it, i'm 41 and I was raised by a bass player, have been a musician myself since the age of 6 and i'm still rockin'. I'll still be listening to metal and all other genres of it when they close the lid on me...

Na...but I do like the 80s big time...all generes:)

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU! My entire family grew up metalheads, and are passing on the tradition to me. Metal has roots and meaning, unlike an ACTUAL adolescent punk band. METAL FOR LIFE!

Your not true to Metal if its one of your phases, and yes you mature in your taste of music its just not a fad anymore and you start to listen

... when i was like 10 i liked rap, now i like rock and like MILD MILD country, depends on who you are

I don't think your age influences your music preferences directly, rather indirectly because you might be influenced by your peers.

100% One of my friend's Dad is a metalhead and he listens to H.I.M and Black Sabbath and all that good stuff and he's like 30's or 40's or somthing and my own Mom and Step-dad are. I've grown up around this stuff lol

I agree with you, Age plays absolutely no part in my music

i don't think age play a part, but i think your peronality and how you're brought up does

I think it does because when you are about 6 years old you don't longer think barney songs, and when you reach your teen years you usually go for the Baddest beats and lyrics in Rap or Reggaeton, Juke, etc.

i don't think age is relevant to the type of music we listen to either. i think it's stupid to think that. i listen to the music i like no matter what image it gives me you know?

Well I certainly think somewhat true..I loved metal but now I just like some ..not all that I did as a teen. However part of it has to do wtih your environment perhaps.I grew up listening to it therefore I like it others cant stand it I guess they werent exposed to it as much as I was.
Rock ON!

yes..but not for any other reason then the music you listen to at your age is what is popular to you, typically.

If you hear Greenday and not the Beatles...over and over again...Greenday will be more your type of music.
It's really more a marketing thing than anything else.

When you hear any song enough on the radio, you will get to like it

Listening to metal is not a phase, I have been listening to metal ever since I was a little kid, and now that I am in my mid 20's, I still *gasps*, listen to metal, But it mostly depends on what type of music you enjoy as a youth, because you grow up with the music you like and will grow up as a fan of it. The majority of people I know still listen to music they liked when they were young

yup i agree old people think that this kind of music we listen nowadays is garbage but its totally not true!! like radical girl!!

No. I listen to music that was recorded before my parents were born (which was 1930 and 1932).

Case in point: I went to see the Dead Milkmen in concert in 1988. I was EASILY the oldest person there, by a good ten years! It didn't bother me that some people might have considered me "too old" to listen to them. I thought they were a funny band and I liked them. I still do.

As for metal, I've never cared for it, so my age has nothing to do with that.

Mosts people tend to get "stuck" in the music from their formative years. My parents STILL think the only good music ever made was in the '50s. My friends and I still get together and listen to and reminisce about progressive stuff from the '80s. But I have to admit, most stuff today sounds like crap to us-- even when we break it down and try to make sense of it. I think people who REALLY try to appreciate music see through it though. That's why some 250 year old classical stuff still holds up today.

yep! i agree with u! im fifteen and i love seventies metal, but my dad is the one who introduced me to it- and he obviously isnt a teenager!
<3 hearts

I think that as you get older your taste widen but you still may like the same music from before. Also you can appreciate what newer artist bring with the same type of music and see how it evolves. I will like pop music till the day I die.

What? That person is stupid. That's because they probably think that kids, I mean teens only listen to metal 'cus they think we are all angry just 'cus were kids, and they think that metal is angry. That's what I'm thinking. Either way, that's not true.

no, i like all music,,,,,,,,,old & current, all types, except rap. i don't like rap

I'll be hitting the big 5-0 this summer and I still say...

Death Metal, love it to DEATH!

Not to a large extent. I think our age shapes what we're constantly exposed to, but if we're at the point where we care about music enought o go out and look for bands that the mass media doesn't feed us, that's when age doesn't matter anymore and we just find music that we love.

And for the statement about metal, who were the original metalheads? They certainly were not the 1990 babies! Love for music doesn't wear away with age.

I AGREE!!! It's not a phase for me sweetheart, it's called my DISEASE!!! My music tastes haven't changed at all since I was old enough to get into my fathers vinyl collection! Keep Rocking GIRL!!!

well i agree with you but i also think that age does play a certain part. i don't know about you but my music taste has really evolved over time. But it's also about the type of music, because if you listen to good music then you should never get tired of it :)

no i dont think it a phase... i know people who listen to that type of music and still listen to it nowadays..

i think it's what you grow up with.certain music brings you back to certain times and i guess you gravitate toward that

No. Age does not matter.

=)

Only teens listen to metal... bah! Nonsense. The two most sincere and dedicated groups of music people I've met are DeadHeads and MetalHeads. My boyfriend is a total metal head, so we are always going to shows (he actually plays in a megadeth tribute band just to make a little extra money). And I will tell ya, most of the people at the shows we go to are in their 30's or 40's.... granted we mostly go to bands that we at their biggest in the 80's or 90's. In 20 years, you'll see the same thing at the shows of newer metal bands. Your not going to see a bunch of 15 year olds in 2028 going to a (fill in the blank with one of today's 'metal' bands) concert. The fans age with the musicians. Of course there are always new fans of good bands, so you will see some people a little younger than the norm... but when you look at the ratios, it's the people who liked a band in their hayday who are going to the shows now.

i think it's all a bunch of horseshit (the age thing)

I think musical preference starts in High school, when you are first exposed to new music you never got to hear when you were younger...some people expand, and refinr that, but the root musical taste still seems to remain...I love metal, always have..since the day I first heard it. I also started to like Punk, when it first came around, and now, can appreciate many different types of music. being a musician helps me to like other types of music, too, like blues and jazz....
