Any group of seven notes like that are called septuplets. In Finale, you would define the tuplets as 7 eighth notes in the space of 1 half note, for example. In a 5/4 bar, you could choose to have 7 eighths in the space of a half note, or 7 eighths in the space of three quarter notes, or even 7 eighths in the space of two half notes. Finale would then do the figuring for you and would place the notes accordingly.

Hope this helps.

In this particular case, you must play the seven notes, in the space of eight. Doesn't mater if it's in 5/4. I see the septuplets are in the space of the last two bits (I don't know if I've spelled correctly). Anyway, you have the 5/4, divided in 3/4 + 2/4. The 7 tuplet is on the 2/4 "measure". So, if you divide each bit (each quarter note) from the 2/4 "bar", you get eight 16th notes (semiquaver, as far as I remember). In front of this eight 16th, you must play 7 EQUAL 16th (doesn't mater if they are written as eights; it's the german system of notation of a tuplet).

When I run into that problem, here's what I do:

1. change the time signature of the measure to one more beat than I really want

2. write the tuplets with the tuplet function

3. change the time signature back to the time signature which I really want.
