Recording Contracts?!
Question: Would NYC be a good place to get a recording contract? Ok, lemme back up...
How would i go about this, AND is it diffucult?
I dont want to go on a talent show, I want to get it on my own means!

Are you in a band, or on your own? If you're in a band, definitely get more gigs, do this if you're solo, too :D
Set up a press-pack. It could include a CD with your songs, business cards and information on your band/self.
Get to know people in the industry. Go to a studio and record some songs for a CD but while you're there, talk to the person that is recording you. Ask them about how you can get a deal and any other questions you have.
Lastly, get a manager. They can sort out things for you, keep the press-packs with them when you have shows and keep you organized. It will keep you going in the long run.

Edit: I guess it would be very hard in NY because it's a big place and more people want to get noticed. Look to try and get noticed in a smalled town, maybe? (:
Hell yeah it's difficult. Otherwise everyone with half a bit of talent would have record deals. As far as NYC, sure I mean it beats trying to get noticed in a small town in North Dakota or something.
high hopes... you have better odds of getting on the next space shuttle flight. I have been waiting for a record deal for years...
