I don't know about songs, I guess I can list a song from each band that's pretty hard, metal is a pretty broad category, so don't rip my head off for listing a band that I think is hard, but you think is really soft.
Older stuff by The Used is a bit hard, but not really metal, a song as an example; Say Days Ago, or Sound Effects And Overdramatics.
Older Atreyu, Suicide Notes, The Curse, and Deathgrip are all pretty hard, there are a few soft songs tho some examples; A Song For The Optimists, At Least I Know I'm A Sinner, You Eclipsed By Me, and Creature.
Cradle Of Filth is pretty hard, I don't have any albumbs, but their newer stuff is a bit softer (Thornography) or so I hear, some songs; Nymphetamine, Her Ghost In The Fog, and From The Cradle To Enslave.
Bullet For My Valentine are really good, their new album has more soft songs than hard ones but it's still good, I really like 4 Words (To Choke Upon), and Tears Don't Fall.
Alexisonfire is also great, they get a bit softer as the albums come out, but they're still amazing and some songs; We Are The Sound, Boiled Frogs, Pulmonary Archery, and White Devil.
Disturbed is good, some songs; Ten Thousand Fists, Guarded, The Game, and Hell.
I'm just going to list the rest in alphabetical order in a list without songs, if you really want songs Youtube will probably have them.
Avenged Sevenfold, Day Of Contempt, Deadstar Assembly, Destroy The Runner, Enter Shikari, Killswitch Engage, Mastodon, Metallica, Mudvayne, Rammstein (this band is german so don't expect a lot of english in the songs), Refused, Slipknot, Underoath, and With Honor.

There's plenty of metal, plus a little hardcore in there as well. ;]
Well it depends how heavy you want. Metallica is always good. Songs like Seek & Destroy, Creeping Death, Whiplash and Frantic. A little heavier - Pantera. With songs like Cowboys from hell, Walk, and 5 Minutes Alone. There are bands much heavier than this. Fear Factory is pretty good too, they are about as heavy as i get.
