Answers: Which of these 3 albums do you think made U2 really really famous and turned them into the biggest band in the word?

War got them noticed
The Joshua tree catapulted them to Superstardom (deservedly)
And Achtung Baby cemented them at the Top.

Joshua Tree.

The Joshua Tree propelled them to superstardom, but it was Achtung Baby that kept them relevent in the 90's. Both sold over 8 million copies. The Joshua Tree was more radio friendly, but by the time they did Achtung Baby, they had learned to make albums and not just singles. Both are classics, but in my opinion, Achtung Baby is the album they should be most proud of. The Unfogetable Fire is a notch below these albums.

The Joshua Tree. For me it was the album that put them on the map with "With or Without You" and "Where The Streets Have No Name". To this day, when I think of U2, the first songs that come into my head are these two. Also, you have to put "Sunday Bloody Sunday" on here even though it was on another album. That was great but not as good as Joshua Tree.

The Unforgettable fire. It was produced by Brian Eno and was (in my opinion) designed to be much more commercial and give them lots of hit singles in the pop charts.

Joshua Tree because...i don't know it had the best music on it or something? i do enjoy U2 though i'm not a huge fan and Joshua Tree seems to be the only album of theirs anyone owns...that and How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.

Regardless of what I think, the fact is that Joshua Tree gave them their worldwide superstar status. The sheer numbers alone tell us that. That being said, Unforgettable Fire is a better album.

Joshua Tree

what a question

It was The Joshua Tree.

Why? Because they had massive record company support, not to mention the goodwill of the US music press, they toured America like mad to sell it, grabbed every photo opportunity they could get, took a camera crew along with them to film themselves pretending to be great rock stars and in doing all this they managed to persuade most of the world that they actually were a great band, in spite of the lame pop-rock that all these albums actually consists of.

The delusion that U2 are one of the all-time great rock bands, instead of just a very famous but not very good pop group, remains widespread to this day.

The Joshua Tree

The Joshua Tree, but you forgot about War. I think War is their 2nd best album.

anything by simple minds in the 80's after all thats who they stole the style from as u2 suck
thanks for the points again

Achtung Baby was absolutely revolutionary and ZOO TV was an amazing show.

Joshua tree, before that they were seen as up there with echo and the bunnymen, the sound, the chameleons and the rest of the long grey coat scene. After joshua tree they took on the world and won, if thats a good thing I'm not too sure, I'd go for unforgettable fire to listen to over the other two anyday.

The Joshua Tree

joshua tree

Probably Achtung Baby (you're not asking for the best album here, which I think is the Josua Tree) along with the ZOOTV tour

The Joshua Tree. I just like it the best for the songs.

The Joshua Tree: that album just connected with everyone... three AMAZING singles.. americana themes that got them recognition in the US... and just the timing of it all..
