Christian rock is a contradiction in terms?!

Question: In my opinion you can be a good Christian, or you can rock out - you can't do both at once. Good rock music is about sex and aggression, and to play music that's about sex and aggression while singing about Jesus...that's just silly.

I think 'Christian rock' is more of a symptom of the American desire to have your cake and eat it - it's like low-fat lasagna, if it's low in fat, it can't be good lasagna, period.

The proof of this is that I have never heard a so-called Christian rock band worth a d***. And I am Irish and I include early U2 in that, btw.

Any good Christians out there will of course forgive me, right?

Christianity + rock = weak. That goes for any religion actually. But there seems to be a proliferation of Christian rock (and metal!!! hello... metal!!!)
I wish we could go back to the days were the Church said that rock music was an abomination and a corrupting force. I avoid Christian music and god botherers like the plague.

What's your take on Blackpool rock then?

"Can't you see you're not making Christianity better, you're just making rock and roll worse?" - Hank Hill

I disagree. There are a number of excellent Christian rock bands. They sing about...God! And Jesus. The style of music is rock, not the content. Check out The Rez Band, from the 1960s.

Not so much as Unblack metal... Christian black metal.

actually, about half the bands i listen to are christian, and the majority of them rock harder than the non-christian ones!

try listening to Stellar Kart...your opinon will change.

christian rock bands dont sing about sex or anything like that... they sing about God and Jesus and all that good stuff.... its for a younger generation and i find some quite good....

I have never herd a Chrsitian band sing about sex and drugs
so there is nothing to worry about, if you belive only good rock includes those themes you don;t have to listen to anything else.

You are completely ignorant, if you think that all "good" rock music is about sex and aggression.

It's people like you that make Christians seem dense and uneducated.

Edit: Rock music in itself has absolutely nothing to do with sex or aggression. There are some rock songs that pertain to those subjects, sure, but that's not the important thing, because that's like saying people shouldn't read at all just because there are books about sex and murder and violence or whatever out there.

Edit: So now you're implying that every time you listen to rock music, you either want to have sex or you want to get violent? Is that the point you're trying to make?

Edit: If this is supposed to be a joke, then you absolutely fail at being funny.

I mostly listen to Christian bands. And I avoid listening to bands that talk about sex and such, because if I wanted such lyrics, I would be better off listening to rap.

We're all entitled to our opinion my brother, and thankfully for all the men and women, who've fought and died for this country, holding fast to THERE opinions and beliefs. You have been given a forum to,voice yours' and judge.GOD guides those in mysterious ways.Wouldn't you agree?

Christian rock is not some prissy music you'll hear in church..not at all....um Underoath is Christian rock and its pretty hard!
Smacking a Christian Label on a band isnt going to weaken them, they still play great music--its not like the lyrics are bible versus!!!!

Wow. you honestly do not know what rock music and christianity is about.
seriously, if you are a christian, was it always there? was your faith always in Jesus Christ? you have never doubted his existence or had ANY troubles in your life, right?? i find this very hard to believe. Christian rock shows the struggle that you go through in order to become a christian and put your heart in Jesus' hands. sometimes "oh glory Jesus. oh glory, you are the king" doesn't help you. I think, as christians, it's up to us to spread God's word. Most people have anger and aggression. and even christians. Christian Rock music expresses that, and the glory of God. and how he can change your life. Does this mean that the music has to be about Sex and Drugs??NO. i would actually like to know where you thought of that. it's obviously an opinion.
Christianity is about giving back to God. Not dressing nice on sunday, and putting on a fake smile while singing catchy church tunes. it's really about giving what you have to honor and praise the glory of God. and you can do that with thrash guitars. it makes it more urgent and like you're crying out for God.
and as Lacey Mosley of the christian band Flyleaf said in an interview, what would you do if your family member or a close friend was about to commit suicide. would you tell them in a quiet church whisper "oh honey, God loves you" or would you scream at them and tell them "God loves you!! i love you!! what are you doing!!"
So Rock christian music is just more urgent. it can bring you to your feet to worship God.
and i've felt the affects. it opens something inside of you when you hear it. when depressed and just want to give up, thats what Christian Music does. it says "God loves you" in an urgent way.

Rock is a style of music, the lyrics could be anything I could make a metal song entitled "Let the bunnies take over the world with their fluffy goodness" and as long as the music is heavy and aggressive sounding, the lyric content is irrelevant- it's still metal.

God gave rock and roll to you
Gave rock and roll to you
Put it in the soul of everyone

It is not so much that their music is "weak", it is just that I do not want to listen to anyone sing about "jesus, mary or joseph." I get more than enough of those types knocking on my door in the early morning, or try to stop me in the street with their so-called "positive" messages.

Yes, Rock music is best served without a bible sermon - and if it is critical of those who do, then I will listen to it.

It shouldnt matter what they sing about as long as its good music.....IF youre the type that needs sex, drugs, and aggression in your music, youre prolly also the type that says Ozzy and Priest is going to drive you to suicide or murder....And since you say youve never heard of any good Christian rock bands, check out Rob Rock, Dark Lay Still, Holy Blood, Crimson Moonlight.....Heres a website for ya....
