Have you ever been to the 'Freedom Zone' chat room?!
Question: It's a chat room set up by somebody here in the 'Rock & Pop' section of Y!A...
It was fun for awhile, but lately it's become the source of abuse and unfortunate circumstances for some very nice people from Y!A...
You really have to be careful there. The owner, has chosen not to make this chat room invite only. The link to TFZ is on his profile page, and it's also plastered all over Yahoo...anybody can join, then basically pass themselves off as anybody they like to good honest people. He banned a couple members recently, but even while being banned they can still view what's being said. They just aren't able to participate in the chat.
If you go, just a friendly warning...be careful what you say in there. A very well known Y!A member is now being stalked, and this stalker has set up a phony mock Yahoo Answers account based on what personal info he acquired about that person within the chat room. The mock account was set up for the sole purpose of harassment.

I think you have a point in most things you say. It is important to keep things safe and information discreet in a public site, for the benefit of all members, because one feels protected but the relative rules... but they don't ... there will be always some sick persons taking advantage of the information they steal or get while peeking in and use it to mock or harass others.
I think the best way to make a chat site is to make it with real, permanent members who will follow the rules and behave in a positive way.

Smiley only tries to help....and he is not making a big deal out of nothing. Being stalked and mocked is a big deal for some of us. Hope it won't ever happen to you.

I have never been to the Freedom Zone, as it seems I'm not particularly into chatting.
Regardless of Smiley's rant, however, he does bring up some good points. This is the World Wide Web. You may feel 'safe' somewhere that you know lots of folks, but unless it's by invitation only, you can never be sure who is looking in.
Conduct yourselves accordingly.

Yes i have been to the tfz chat room site several times and I dont have a problem with the owner of the site but he should warn certain people to chill out and look at their yahoo answers profiles before them joining the site because i have other friends that have chat room sites and one of them thats what they to unless they know you and i knew that person make another account to stalk someone and harass certain people
I think the main problem is that people can look in and read your conversations without you knwoing they're even there. There's an option that you can make it so you don't get signed in automatically, so you can read without anyone knowing you're there. I don't think many users on the chatsite know that, maybe it was my mistake for not having mentioned it before.
But I thinka s long as we're all careful and don't give out personal information, we should be fine.
I'm honestly not sure what all to say in response to this. Smiley, I honestly think you are taking this way out of proportion. The place is nowhere near as bad as you make it out to be. I know for a fact that just about everyone misses you, and Darth is actually taking this really hard. He feels betrayed by you, and honestly I have to agree with him. But I do agree that people should be more careful with their personal information. This is the internet, and someone is bound to stumble across it.
Also, I think that the whole "Jeff" thing has changed you. You seem a lot more paranoid about everything, and even the last time you were in the chatroom you started accusing nice people of being Jeff. Sure, the man is a creep, but he can't be everywhere at once, and I sure as hell know a lot of the people in the chatroom aren't "masquerading" as him.
I really do hope that this issue will blow over. However, if it doesn't I do want to say that when I had the chance I did enjoyed talking to you, and that I wish you luck in whatever the future holds for you.

As for the other betrayals I was really not aware of these, are you talking about unbanning the people in the chatroom?
i don't go on there, but judging from the situations which have come up recently, i can see why you are upset about this, and i understand your concerns regarding not just this chatroom but all chatrooms in general...anyone can portray themselves to be anybody on the internet, and it's unfortunate but as long as everyone is careful and responsible we should be ok; problem is, a lot of people like to abuse the freedoms of the internet
perhaps the operator of said site will address these concerns personally, but considering the rift between you guys right now, it may only end in more fighting

YOu really need to quit taking things so seriously, sorry if i sound brutal but I am speaking my mind which i have held in about for for a week or so now, If i showed some of those emails that you (a 57 year old man) sent me (a 15 year old kid) they would be repulsed, Smiley, you are a good man, its just you take thing WAYYYYYYY out of proportion, you are VERY knowledgable about music and you are very smart, its just like i siad before you make the biggest deals about the smallest things. I hope that mayube you can learn to lighten up and enjoy life in the future, I also wish you luck in whatever the future holds for you, It made me very sad writing all of this believe it or not because when I think about how cool we used to be it just makes me sad, you WERE a very good friend to me and I appreciate that

Damn... am I the only one who NEVER knows what the hell is going on around here? I spend pretty much my entire work day here and apparently that still isn't enough to catch even a glimpse of what is taking place.
I've been to the chat room a few times and haven't had any problems, but then again, that's not to say that I go there too often. It's hard for me to hang out there during work and I don't usually sit on the computer when I'm out of work, but I did a couple weekends ago and was on the site until 4 am and had a lot of fun. I'd definitely go there more often if I had the time.
I do understand where you are coming from when you say that we all need to be careful. I agree with you and truly appreciate you taking the time to warn everyone of your concerns. You mean well and I think that is evident.
It seems as though you are getting people aggrivated with you and I'm sad to see that happen. Maybe we all take this whole internet friendship too serious (myself included) but I can say that I've honestly made some awesome friends here (you being one of them) and I hate to see other peoples' friendships fall apart over something that didn't need to happen.
I wish I had something solid to say here but the fact is I don't. I'm rather confused about this whole situation. All I see is that you appear to be arguing with Ozzy, Brian and Darth and I don't understand why a misunderstanding has to result to this. All of those guys have been great with me and I consider them all friends of mine. I don't think they mean any harm to you Smiley, perhaps this is all just being turned into something it's not?
We all know that you've had some hard times with this "Jeff" character and I think I can speak on behalf of everyone by saying that we are deeply sorry that had to happen to you, but you can't push everyone else away as a result of what one stupid person subjected you to.
I'm not trying to poke my nose into anybodys' business but I just couldn't help but comment on this because I think it's a shame. There has to be some way of resolving this mess.
If you need me for anything I am here, the same way I am here for any other one of my friends from R&P. I hope the best for you all and hope a resolution can be found.
