What don't you like about Rap music out there today (if you dont)?!

Question: i cant stand the lyrics (bling, women, cars), and ive never been able to tolerate the music. I cant wait for the day a rapper raps about serious stuff and has a real band with real guitars, drums, and bass.

closest thing to that was Rage Against The Machine--too bad i dont even know what half the songs are about.

It's simple. Listen to any Biggie, Wu Tang from 95- 02, 2Pac, Snoop, Dre, etc.
Then listen to everything from Ja Rule on.
You will easily notice that it was more about roots hip-hop back then. Partying, not flossing. Making money, not bling. Raw beats that one could recognize and attribute to a certain producer after half of a beat. Now it is just as many get rich quick acts as possible because come-up artists are getting a bigger slice of the pie from producers whose motives are quantity over quality. The tracks you hear today are just recycled, watered dowm, pale imitations of a form of expression that defined a generation. In ten years when we look back at what has come out in the past three or four years, especially the last year, we are going to be making fun of these artists. I hate to say that NSYNC and Backstreet Boys have done more for pop music than artists today are doing for rap. Don't get mme wrong there is talent out there, but generally, rap has gone way downhill. It used to be that the majority was tight. Now it takes effort to find a bangin' new MC.

actually, some of it is really good. you just have to look hard (like rock bands) and you can find some really good stuff

some rappers actually do have songs on relevant topics (common, mos def, saul williams) and some actually do have a full band (the roots, beastie boys if you count them as rap) it's just a matter of going beyond all the MTV crap

I like Kanye West because his songs are not all "bitches and hos and gangstas and bling" and all that crap.
There are a few good rappers out there.

I just asked almost the same question. I dont like rap because its to easy. play with a computer, make a beat, rap. There are like hundreds of different rappers on MTV that are big because of pretty much 1, count em, 1 song. Sure some are talented I agree and still make songs. But theres a load of "Lil" this and "shorty" that.

I just think their most spoken topics are really puerile and foolish like money, sex, drugs, and prostitutes...they just don't shine themselves in a very nice light if you catch my drift.
i'm sure not all rap is crappy but that's the general view...not gonna lie.

Not saying it's all rap. Just the ones that over glorify gang violence money and half naked women.

it sucks

Some of it just doesn't make sense. I like old school too, the good old days. I guess I don't really like rap because in all music I don't really like today's music, I like old fashioned better. It's something about those old fashioned lyrics and tone that draws me in.

What's there to like?

Pointless lyrics, and just really fast talking. I don't exactly even consider it music, just a bunch of dumbasses trying to be cool.

It's all about rock'n'roll and blues.

I dislike rap very much. They talk about horrible things, such as hoes, how much money they have, girls, drugs, ect.
Its all just trash.

it all sounds the same!! (of course i am refering to mainstream) everyting on the radio is all like "i'm in luv wit a stripper" or "buy u a drank". and like evrey song says someting about girls a**es!!! its like, please give me something that i don't have to degrade myself to listen to!

i prefer music with inteligent lyrics x]

I definitely am a rock and metal type of person, but I do admit that I used to be really into rap and hip hop when I was much younger.

Now I barely listen to it at all. I find all the rap you're speaking of (the pointless kind), to be torture to listen to. I feel like my IQ is dropping. ha
But, I do like Tupac, and other rap/hip hop from the '90s and such. I don't mind the kind that actually has meaning... other than T&A.

The only hip hop band I like from today (they aren't even real hip hop, more rock-hip hop), is Gym Class Heroes.
Yes, almost all of their newer stuff is pretty pop-y, but their Papercut Chronicles album is reallyy good, and has a lot of heavy subjects.

the first person (sambang) is right u have to look hareder for the good music actually bro if u want rappers to talk serious check out lupe fiasco man oh heres a classic "crossroads"by bone thugs n harmony thats some deep **** brother

today's rap are just a bunch of independant sentences with nothing connecting them

you MUST listen to the notorious B.I.G. every song of his is incredible -- every aspect of it

Well, like you said, I can't stand the whole 'Smack my b***h up, drink some vodka, get high' crap. I like David Costa, even though a few songs touch drugs. But he can rap some good issues though. I love rock, metal, and a little pop, but I recently started writing some rhymes, and they weren't half bad I thought!

I Love Fort Minor, Hate Snoop Dog. Simple as that

Todays rappers are all about the money and gettin some.....Ahem...you know what I mean.

I like rap with a good message and beat, but today's rap seems to have no relevant beat and is all over the place as far a lyrics go. Rap now seems to be like Jazz.....They make it up as they go along.

u should try rappers like lupe fiasco and most def. im more of a rock person myself and i think its mostly because after a while you get tired of hearing the same things over and over again

Alot of it is annoying, no melody & gives me a headache-ya, I know-thumbs down.

i totally agree with you. whenever someone asks me why i dont like rap, i always say because theyre about money, girls, and killing people. ugh.

It means nothing to me. I feel no connection to it. Also I can't appreciate the sound of it. It's boring, annoying and offensive all in one.

The thing I maybe hate the most about it is that it's ALWAYS in 2/4! Get another rhythm, for freak's sake.
