Wasn't it more fun to buy RECORDS than CDs, and definitely MP3s?!

Question: Buying a record seemed a lot more special than buying CDs or downloading. There was the beautiful big cover art, and the feeling that you had a relationship with the artist with a record. Like they were making it just for you. Or am I just being nostalgic?

I'm 100% in agreement with you!
Albums are much better for the reasons you stated. Also when you opened an album for the first time you never knew what else could be inside. I've gotten wall posters, booklets, pictures, even a deed to land!
Some albums opened like a book, some had pop-ups, etc.
Not only that but albums sound much better than cd's!
I hate buying cd's, they are so boring. Have you ever tried to read the date on a cd to see when it came out, impossible with my eyes without a magnifying glass.
Bring back Vinyl!

I can relate to you with MP3s, as I wasn't around for records. But even with CDs, I remember the special feeling when you open the wrapping and look through the booklet. It was really exciting. Its also so great to get a new CD from you favorite band in the mail. My heart would pound so hard as you unwrap it.

Damn computers.

Even when you buy a cd and upload it to the computer, it really looses something. I don't know if its just me. :-S

With MP3s you just download it and tend not to appreciate it as much at all. Meh.. Listen to a few songs and then just let it rot in your huge mp3 collection. I really miss the good ole days of CDs. The excitement is worth the high price.

Agh.. Nostalgia.. I'm depressed now

I still like to find vinyl. Usually in charity shops. Convert them to CD,WMA format.
I Don't bother with MP3 as I they don't count to record colllection

LP's were really just on the way out when I was little, but I feel that nostalgia for CDs ~ which could explain why I still buy so many of them!

I love cover art, and reading the sleeve notes, and just holding something tangible in my hands. Downloading deprives us of a great sensory experience.

I don't even have an MP3 player yet!

Well, by the time I started buying CD's, LP's weren't that 'popular' anymore, because of all the new electronic products that were coming up. Nowaways I still prefer CD's over mp3, since it's something physical you can hold, and look at it (the booklet in it etc). But yeah, alot of bands are still bringing out LP's or 7".. so the die-hards will still collect them. And I recently discovered that my parents still have a bunchload of old LP's and even a record player, so I might try that out soon! Being nostalgic about something like this is very understandable :)

omg..i know..you always see on movie speople in the record sotr flipping through boxes of records and i wish we would do that more.

Ah, records! I could spend hours in a record store looking at all the cool cover art. And when you bought one, you always hoped there would be cool liner notes. I bought records in addition to the CD for each album I purchased right up until the time records just dried up.

Nothing wrong with being nostalgiac. Some of my fondest childhood memories were flipping through albums at my local "Zayre" store, admiring the covers of albums that I knew my mom would never buy for me.

I think some of both. Most LPs on the back had little blurbs about the band. Who they were, how they came up with the ideal for this record. Then some word of thanks. Cd's are impersonal, how do you compete with the size of an LP that is 4.5 times the size.
Nostalgic in the sense that Nothing like getting that new album home and having a bad needle and not realizing it. Then putting it on that new record and it getting a permanent scratch on it. That use to piss me off.

Aww Stevie, I know how you feel. I wish I still had my old LP's, but sold them off about 15 years ago because I couldn't even buy a record player. Thought those days were gone. Now I can buy a record player and don't have my collection anymore. So sad! I would have loved to play some of those old teenie bopper records for my daughter, just so she could laugh at me! I was always so excited for the inside art, especially the double albums, extra goodies like posters inside!

Hey, what's with all the thumbs down?

desolato - you definately need to look into your parents collection, you might find some real gems... and if you find any Neil Diamond in there, contact me!!!

I know what you mean. It is great to have an MP3 or an iPod, but I use that for traveling only, not to be impressive.

mp3 is easier u don't have 2 leave your house, but i do like the cover art of records, but u still have it with cd's

I miss rushing out to buy a record on it's release date, rushing home, unwrapping the cover, spinning the black circle, pouring through the photos and liner notes as the music filled the air... the glorious artwork that can't be seen on a CD (least at my age).

I still rushed out every payday to score some new music after I broke down and got a CD player in the early 80's... I was (and still am) buying stuff that I had/have on vinyl.

I will listen to MP3's on the 'puter, but don't like the "lossy" sound. For that matter, CD's have a lot of high-end hiss, too.

I miss the analog recordings... the warmth and aural bliss!

Damn, now you've gone and made me nostalgic! ;-P

Dang!!! I forgot about that!!!! I do miss it!!!! That is exactly why I do not download. That is why I need that CD in my hand. I love the album art, and liner notes.

I will say this. buying CDs is way better than it used to be buying cassettes!!!!

don't even get me started on Ebooks... won't touch 'em!!!!!

I still buy records! There are a couple record stores that I go to and I love looking through records, I could do it for hours. I am not old enough to have been apart of the record phase when it was around, but I love them now.

I liked the packaging and art part of it, but making sure they were stored correctly and such was a pain in the ****.
I still prefer to buy the CD's at the store than copy /download them for the same reason, I like the art and info accompanying the CD. I still pick up records hear and there.
I can't say @rse on here either holy cow! I didn't know that was a swear.

No, I love CDs more than anything because you can fit more of them into your storage bins. I used to have Vinyl LPs in the 90s....but not lot really. I had used rare LPs that couldnt be found on CDs. I had more Cds than anything. I miss the 80s' cassette tapes too. Those were really cool too.

Downloading takes all the fun out of actually going to a REAL CD store and buying a Cd. It makes you lazy really. I will still go to the CD stores and buy CDS when I can. I'm still not warm to the whole "downloading songs " thing yet.

Who the hell pays for Mp3s?
