Classical Music.. how old?!
Question: I love Ludovico Einaudi, Patrick Hawes and a load of other classical piano music not only to play but to listen to on my Ipod aswell. I'm 15 and popular at school, but classical music isn't exactly a hit with young people. I believe classical music is for any age, what's your opinion?

My husband plays French horn in the orchestra. I'm a singer in the opera ensemble. We have 3 daughters, and they all grew up listening to us practice, listening to the recordings we listened to to help us learn the works we encountered. Our oldest daughter begged us for piano lessons, but we waited a bit, just to see if she really was interested. ( she was)
Nowadays, as they are all in their late teens and early 20s, they have branched out an d listen to many other genres as well, but classical music provides a stable ground level for them. ( my second daughter studies with classical music running. She says it helps with the math and physics she adores. In her spare time, she plays classical guitar.)
My youngest daughter ( 18 this month) has ben involved in our theater's children's chorus for the last several years.
The young people there are not only budding singers, but most of them are instumentalists as well. Not one of them can't read music. They have no problem with music as their hobby, and whenever we have a new production in the works, they do more for publicity ( with their parents, friends and schools) than our PR department does.
Don't let other people in your age group dictate to you what you should or shouldn't listen to. They are the ones losing out on this remarkable gift through the generations.
It's for anyone that likes it. Because even "old" people were born well after most classical composers.
Definitely for any age! My younger sister used to not be able to sleep at night unless there was classical music playing. I have always liked classical music aswell from a young age, it's not like it's anything to be embarassed about (as some people seem to think)
Sounds as though ya a 'cultured' dude, nothing wrong in that so long as ya enjoy it hey!....
music, any music, trancends age, old people listening to hip hop, young people listening to classical, not that uncommon :)
I totally agree, classical music is for any age I'm 14, and i've been playing the piano for 9 years, so i guess that has influenced what I like, I'm a big fan of baroque music, but as you say it isn't a hit with young people. But it isn't the only type of music i like, i love metal - the two extremes.
Oh you are so right about growing with classical music.... I was bread on it and the piano... Now I can listen to it, and have some idea who's work it is and how popular it is today!!!! Don't ever be ashamed of listening to this kind of
music, it never grows old in my ears either.!
Hmmm, I'm a current classical composer myself and fancy myself quite informed, and I'd never heard of these gentlemen until you sent me web-searching. I think that shows just how fragmented the classical world is, and how we don't know what to do with guys who have impeccably classical credentials but a pop-ish sensibility. Anyway, I applaud your initiative in seeking them out.
I've been listening to classical since I was 5. Yes, it set me apart at school, esp. after I began scrawling notes on paper. But they SO did-not understand, that it didn't bother me; it might as well have been baboons arguing theology. And of course, if they know any classical at all, it's "old dead white guys with wigs". They don't know it, or how it works, or why it might be relevant to them. We need to get parents converted, because if you don't grow up with it, it's too late, because everything the schools teach is BS and propaganda (or so it seems at a certain age -- and even now, 35 years after that certain age)
