Longeivity/Consistancy
so yeah, lupe defintily wouldnt make it, and this would give people like krs-one major points....staying in the game for 20 years isnt easy, so rappers who have deserve credit for that. And if you are a rapper whose been in the game a long time, if your first album was dope but your rest werent u dont get credit. Just cuz u stay in the game a long time doesnt mean a lot if u havent stayed good. Scarface has been really consistant. Snoop Dogg hasnt.
Influence
Without a lot of people other great MC's wouldnt even exist. For example, without Melle Mel no Rakim, with no rakim then no Nas and AZ and so on.... those are some of the greatest ever, and without melle mel and similar people, other great artists wouldnt be here
Thier content, and if they have a point to their music
people like krs-one, black thought... rap isnt just about dancing and money or whatever, you gotta have a point to what your saying, its not just mindless junk
Vocabulary
When it comes down to it, can u sit down and right a dope *** verse with crazy multi sylable rhymes? people like rakim, kool g rap, and big pun do this perfectly

This includes dope metaphors and just your whole style and subject matter. People like eminem, redman, big L
Flow/Delivery
if u can spit or not. Rappers who help the beats, not rappers like soulja boy who pay a producer 200 grand to cover up their terrible flow with a nice beat... people like biggie, AZ, big daddy kane, and big L
Anyone who has at least five top ten hits or should have. Also must release at least 2 albums and been in the game for 3 years.

well i could go and give you a rundown on how many classic albums are by artists who only released one album, or about how many artists only have one good album...but i wont. Instead ill put it to you like this: Criteria for a top mc is not based upon longevity, or how many albums released. Its based upon consistancy.
More then 2 albums, creativity, influence and and the ability to adjust.
well that makes no sense cuz Ready To Die dropped in 1994 and Life After Death dropped in 1997...total of 3 years...
and big is #1 on your list...but "your criteria" is 5 years
Biggie was on Mary J Blige's Real Love remix and that came out in 1993, so he was rapping in 1993-1997 inclusive at least. That's 5 years.
My criteria is a bit simpler, quality over quantity. But yes consistency does count.
