He may have rocked if he added a couple Marshall Amps, and a heavy band behind him!! But since all he did was sing with the Muppets (they rocked tho!!!), Ill have to say NO, John Denver did not rock!!!

I don't know if I would say Denver actually "rocked", while growing up I listened to some John Denver via my older sister, the guy had some good songs, played a pretty good guitar but beyond that I am guessing you would more likely find his music in the easy listening section as opposed to the rock section.
lol- I liked a few of his tunes. He fit in perfectly for the decade of his heyday. He was huge for a little while. Even had his own tv show. Folky/country/pop was in back in the 70s. (eg: Mack Davis, The Hudson Bros, Hee Haw, etc, all had tv shows)
But Denver's list of songs is definitely one that demands some respect. The guy was also a good guitar player.

I am a play it at 11 type but John Denver is one of the greats.
His music is so pure and he is so skilled a writer that despite what music is your favorite genre, you gotta love him.

I put him in the same category that I put Sinatra, Cash, Hall and Oates, Tom Petty and Jim Croce. Not my favorite type of music but you cannot ignore him, his is too good.
Yes, he did rock... unfortunately, his songs are so popular that everyone having played guitar for 2 minutes thinks to be able to play them... the key to his music was always his nice picking patterns...
"Rock" is not a word I associate with John Denver... but he was a great songwriter!
