Should I buy a six-string bass?!

Question: I only own a four-sting atm and want a five, but I have an opportunity to buy a six-string.
I'm curious if it would be a good idea since I'm in a metal band, or should I just go with a five-string?

Well, here's the thing. I own a six-string bass and I play metal. I actually opted to use my B-tune modified four string instead of my six string. Why? Because I access the lowest string most often. The point of a six string bass is to have a lower AND higher range. If you don't need the higher range, don't bother adding neck width for it. The high C string just adds another string you'll have to navigate over. I like using my six for jazzy and avant garde stuff, but I never use it for the heavier stuff. Stick with the five string. Your wrists will thank you for it.
There's nothing worse than having to wrench your wrist to get to the twelfth fret of your B string.

Metal? Yeah. You need as much bass as you can get.

if you know your way around the fretboard pretty well id say go for it.
