Smooth Jazz 105.9 cancelled?!

Question: Today I went on the smooth jazz website to listen to jazz while doing busy work to find a letter saying that they were off the air and now the station is some True Oldies kind of station. If any one has any facts or ligitamate details please let me know what happened to this joyous station I listened to well over 10 years.

Yep, Citadel Broadcasting had a bad 4th quarter and made changes at several stations around the country. That's the way radio often works -- when they make a change it's often with little or no warning.
See the mediaweek link for what little details there are.

See my question just under yours.

Citadel pulled the plug on its smooth jazz format on WJZW, Washington, DC after 14-years as Aretha Franklin's "Respect" launched "The New True Oldies 105.9.

I know there are a lot of Smooth jazz fans on the board. If you need further info I'm monitoring some radio boards and will update this post.

They had a bad quarter - not unusual seeing how they just aquired ABC. But Wall Street didn't like it, the stock dropped and management freaked out. Check the radio trades - they're trashing stations in markets all over the country. Trying to save money - look better to stockholders. Stupid reaction.
