What SHOULD Be Popular Right Now?!

Question: I know a lot of people ask what's popular right now, but I'm always thinking of the bands and artists that should, in fact, be getting some great credit. Bands like The Dear Hunter, great band, but just not talked about enough!

Not to say that I'm the least bit suprised about it, I bet that if particularly the classic rock contingent checked out Stephen Malkmus they would enjoy it. Same with Built to Spill.

I am suprised the Shins kind of fizzled out (on a more popular level). I was honestly thinking they were going to break through.

I'm also suprised that so few people, even in the sort of lesser known, I guess pitchfork.com type of community know about Apollo Sunshine. They are a really, really fantastic band that almost no one seems to know about.

Nobody outside of southern CA and really very few outside of Ventura, CA know about Franklin For Short. I'm really hoping that their pending record will change that. Those guys are a really great group that put on a really great show and their new record sounds just awesome. My band has played a lot of shows with them and I've seen them a lot of times aside from that and they are just so much better than the level that they are known,

slipknot and mudvayne and korn and other bands should get back together.

I think Immortal Technique and RA the Rugedman should be popular, but aren't because of their vulgar and contraversial wordplay.

Rachael Sage
Vienna Teng
Jake Armerding
Ennis

They are all amazing, yet sadly underrated.

Music that makes folks actually use their brain. That'd be pretty cool. Oh well. It's not too often that the music that is popular is also the music that is actually good. It's actually a rare thing that has only happened on a few occasions throughout the history of popular music.

Set Your Goals. They're good catchy pop punk with a raw sound.

dream street.

I dont really know a lot of bands that are popular right now. That was way back in 2005-2006. Now it's all about solo artists.

First band that came to mind for me was Blackfiled. They're not the favorite of all my bands, but I do love them and they have this great catchy pop rock sound that's very easy to listen to and like. They even keep their songs pretty short. They are pretty capable of breaking it into the mainstream because they have such a easy to like sound to them.

I agree with you on The Dear Hunter. Amazing band, but highly underrated.

With the rise of bands such as Daphne Loves Derby and Secondhand Serenade, I think that Dear Juliet will be the next one to hit it big, but he just hasn't reached that point yet and is unknown at the moment to most people. He has a very nice and calming sound to his music and I think deserves more recognition.
