Many Musicans today prefer to drop the 'Christian' title (even if they are Christian in faith) since their music will be marketed to a wider audience; than soley as 'Christian' and be delegated to the 'Gospel' section in Music stores. The marketing directors thought by creating a 'Christian' music category, then Christian shoppers would be able to buy music just for them by people like them, but this usually hurts the overall music sales of the artist. Bands like U2, Lifehouse, P.O.D, Alice Cooper, Sixpence none the Richer, Lenny Kravicks, Destiny's Child, and Jessica Simpson (for example) tend to keep their personal beliefs separate from their music, or refuse the 'Christian' moniker given by marketing directors.

Being a christian does not make one a christian musician or band. A proper christian band is one who sings specifically about Christ and praises God.
