I remember watching them perform in Toronto (where the majority of the band are from), when they were known as 'The Sparrow' in their pre- Steppenwolf days. They played at many community halls, and school dances when I was a teenager.
The Sparrow recorded several songs, of which I own on vinyl.

I saw Steppenwolf in around 1969 with The Steve Miller Band, Poco, The Guess Who, and Grand Funk Railroad all on the same bill! I also caught them once again in the early 1990's, and they still rocked!
I have all of their albums on vinyl, along with several on CD.

They're ok, but I only know one song they did.
Yes, they're one of my favorites and the fact they are not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame just continues to prove to me what a farce that institution actually is. Basically, the artists the music critics at Rolling Stone magazine loved (Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello, Madonna) are the ones who get right in while those the critics didn't like (such as this group) are still waiting. They've been eligible since 1992.
