Any other bands that sound similar to early APC?!

I like a mixture of time signatures and vocals that are unique but not annoying.
The guitarwork in that album by them I think is amazing. Especially on "The hollow".
I'm trying to see if there are any other bands with a similar aesthetic?
Try not to name anything too well known because with all the time i've spent looking up bands i've probably come across them.

edit: I just read the rest of your question and see that you don't want anything well known.
You can try Maynard's other band called Puscifer. The sound isn't too similar to APC but I can hear similarities. A Perfect Circle definetely have their own sound and it is hard to find other bands that sound the same.

As far as i am concerned APC/Tool are pretty much in a class of there own. If you arent familiar with Tool its maynards other band, a little more rocky and incredibly detailed lyrics that are based on numerology and the concept of life itself. The detailed time signatures are very very unique. I havent yet found anything remotely similar. As an APC fan, other music im interested in (no idea if you will be or not but worth checking out) The Alchemy index by Thrice, very mellow and cruisy especially the water cd, or The Mars Volta, for something else with bizzarrely unique music combinations and rythms. Televators, off the Deloused in the Comatorium album is fantastic, along with Eriatarka.
A band with a similar sound to APC would Deftones, especially during and after the White pony album, it has it's great experimentation, with clean vocals, slower songs and a couple of good hard rocks songs. Even Maunard guess stars on Passenger
Yeah, I was going to recommend Deftones. I'd also suggest you check out Far. They have 2 albums that came out in the late 90s, and they used to tour with Deftones.

Wow! Even Tool only has in common with APC, Maynard James Keenan. Deftones maybe would be close. But APC is unique.
I recommend you check out V.A.S.T. Visual Audio Sensory Theater, great band from the late 90's the front man Jon Crosby is a very talented musician. I'll post the link for the video Free if you want to check them out.
