Does anyone else get fed up with the Rock snobs who blow off pop music and their!
Question: It's not easy making it in either genre, and just because a star is popular it doesn't mean he or she lacks talent. Yet, some of these people constantly want to say unless it's some heavy metal or "hair" band it's not real rock...but can't they see there are at least 50 different genres that fall under the rock umbrella? Why are they being so narrow minded?

It's true that people who dismiss the whole pop genre are incredibly narrow minded, intelligent pop music can be just as impressive as any other form of music. However I must agree that the majority of pop music is mostly about looks and the marketing efforts of record labels rather than the talent of the performer. You only have to look at a show like American Idol to see how the money men run the whole industry. Most rock bands have to work hard for years before they achieve mainstream success and this means only the good bands come through.

Pop will always have a place. I think a lot of purists dismiss pop stars because they generally don't write their own music and are really only performers. Only a handful of pop stars retain their popular status for over five years, so there's not much longevity either.
Speaking as a music snob, I get fed up with the parade of no talent "musicians" and pop divas that get shoved down my throat. Hair bands generally don't count as listenable music by the way.
i agree with cbjr a lot of pop stars do not write their own music a lot of rock star's don't complain at all it's a few that want the attention or think that the shouldn't have the fame because they do not write there own music

1. write their own music
2. play any musical instrument with any amount of talent
and DO:
1. lip-sync in concert
2. have crappy inane lyrics
plus, pop music doesn't have the soul that's in GOOD rock
rap music is also considered a type of rock! that shocked me.
I suppose its no diffrent than hip hop and rap heads who have to constantly defent thier tastes because of afew bad apples.
Nobody really understands how the music business works, much less music.....so I can understand. It would bug me.
