Don't you think country is getting to pop?!

Question: i can't hardly stand some of the new artist. i think taylor swift is so pop its unreal (and not a really good singer). carrie underwood isn't far behind, although i like her better than swift. don't you think country is getting to pop? what happened to the steal guitars, banjos, fiddles, etc? kind of reminds me of a song.... murder on music row. just kind of a rant, sorry couldn't help myself.

Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood are great examples of country turning pop. They can go both ways, to me country should be country songs and not be anything else. Thats why Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Garth Brooks, and all of them are so praised by there music. They know what country is really about!!!

I totally agree. Now all the new country stars have songs popping up on all those obnoxious Top 40 radio stations.

it's called being outdated. the people who still listen to country respect the classics like reba and george strait and so on, that's country music as it was.

nowadays country is losing fame and it seems like they're just doing their best to keep it in the running

You are right on the money!! I do not listen to very much "new country". To me real country music "died" about 1993 or 1994. There are some good artists today, but they are few and far between. I like artist that actually have a vocal range and can play their own instruments. I agree about Taylor being more pop, if you can stand to listen to her, she sounds more like a rapper to me.

Most definately!!!! That's why I stick to Red Dirt and Classic radio..... Stoney Larue, Cross Canadian, Randy Rogers, Jason Boland etc. stick with the good Southern edgy country that I love, love, love..... Miranda Lambert is outstanding and way underrated in modern country....

"Getting?" Do you remember (or have you read) when Charlie Rich burned the envelope at the CMA Awards because the "song of the year" was "I Honestly Love You"? (Well, besides the fact that he was three sheets in the wind...)

This is a problem that's been plaguing country music for 40 years now. Fortunately, in the past there was always a country alternative. The smarmy pop of Glen Campbell in the late 60s could always be offset by Buck Owens. Didn't like Olivia Newton-John? There was the "outlaw" movement (and that's precisely WHY Waylon and Willie started the "outlaw" movement!). Sick of that Kenny Rogers stuff? There was Ricky Skaggs.

Now, however, there's no serious alternative to the pop -- or downright ROCK -- out there. It's either pop or rock, but no country.

Preach on!

The thing is there is another movement out there. It is led by the likes of Hank Williams III, Wayne "the Train" Hancock, Those Poor Bastards, and so many more that Trashville, i mean Nashville is scared of. Hank III is Curb wants him to sell out and do pop country.

check out the songs "Dick in Dixie", "Trashville", and "The Grand Ole Opry (ain't so grand anymore)" by Hank Williams III.

"....cause if you know what I'm thinking you'll know that pop country really sucks!"
