What's a better kind of amp?!

Question: Tube amp or solid amp?

What are the differences and which one sounds good at a really high volume?

Also what is a good wattage for a playing a gig with 50-100 watts?

1. Tube amps are way better there's no question there

2. The difference between tube amp and solid is that tube amps have much more better sound adjusting esspecialy high and low frequences on the other hand solid amps (atleast to me) have much more better middle fr. adjusting.

3. Depends on how much noize u'r going to bring i own Peavey 75 Watt and it suits me just fine .

i don't know exactly what your talking about all I know about amps is that my boyfriend will only use Marshall brand

If you've got the money, go get a 100 watt tube. That's all there is to it. A solid state amp will NEVER and i repeat NEVER sound as good as a tube amp. Overdrive or clean. That being said, a 100 watt tube amp is gonna cost you a grand.

That also being said, I've got this 100 w Vox hybrid amp (solid state w/ a tube pre-amp) that has a Marshall setting on it that sounds the best I've ever heard for a crap amp. It still, in NO way shape or form could compare to a tube driven Peavey, Marshall, Mesa, or any other amp you can think of. This is a no-brainer.

The main difference is that tube amps have a warm beautiful distortion. Solid state have the sound of an amp trying to replicate tube distortion. You might find a solid state that sound pretty good, but I seriously suggest you try to locate a Marshall JCM2000 and be done with it.

depends on what type of music your playing,

tube amp sounds warmer and can really sound mean and crunchy when turned up loud, but a tube amp won't perform like that unless its turned up loud and overdriven.

A solid state is basically what was come up with because of the advances in electronics, so they got rid of the tube and went with solid state electronics.

But the sound was different. It wasn't as warm as tubes, although you can basically get the same sound out of it at any volume.

Most musicians prefer tubes, but others like those who play harder music (heavy metal type) prefer solid state due to its more colder "industrial" sound, and it reacts faster to the notes than tubes, so the fast tempos and speeds that they play, the amp reacts instantly to that.

go with the tube.
idk what the difference is but...

i know a professional musician who only plays tubed rigs

as long as its a KranK it doesnt matter

listen to wyld stalyns rulew

i've had both, i have a tube amp right now, personally, i think the tube sounds best at a really high volume.
i LOVE the distortion on my tube amp, the distortion on my solid-state amp absolutley sucked! but!, the clean channel on tubes amps, in my opinion, are HORRIBLE, like, i won't even play songs clean on my tube amp because i can't stand it (but i play mostly stuff that needs distortion, so it's not a problem for the most part)
so, it's based on your needs as a musician, i suggest going to a music store and trying out both types on both clean and distorted, and see what you prefer
