What do I need to make my drum set complete??!

Question: I have a 22" Bass Tom, 14" Snare, 12" Tom, 13" Tom, 16" Floor Tom, 14" Hi-Hat and a 15" Crash...which is a piece of crap. So I was wondering what you think would make it a complete set.

I play rock & contemporary Christian music.

The next step would be to get a ride cymbal, between 18-22 inch, depending on your taste. Besides that maybe like an 8 inch splash and replace the crash. You don't need much more to complete a set unless you have a really good idea what type of sound you want (ie you want to play fast paced metal so you might grab a double bass). Other drum types to get would be a second floor tom. Before getting more drums i would work on expanding cymbals first and maybe a couple crashes if you really want to expand. But a ride cymbal is def. your next step.

Get you some roto-toms, like Neal Pert of the band RUSH.
And while your at It some chimes and a gong too.

P.S. Double bass would be cool too.

Roto-toms? Chimes? A gong? Are you serious?!? The dude is trying to round out his incomplete drum kit. Who cares about being a Neil Peart clone?

The essentials:

Next, especially in christian music where ballads are occasional, you need a ride. I would go with a 20" ride that has a good shimmer, a good sounding bell and an edge you can occasionally crash on. Following, you may way to add a good quality crash...perhaps a 16" or 18" for some musical versatility beyond your 15". Eventually you could begin replacing your cymbals with hand-hammered cymbals (far more expensive than sheet cast Zildjian ZBT's or Sabian B8's) to improve their tone. Beyond that, you can begin looking at more effect driven items..such as splash cymbals, china cymbals, and double bass pedals.

One item that really could help in the worship world would be the Hat Trick. it's a small tamborine that mounts on you hihat that gives the effect of a tamborine when you close your hihat with your foot. You wouldn't really get the benefit of this until you get a ride cymbal..because it's common to tap your hihat pedal while playing on a ride.

Hope it helps.
