Would it really kill someone in the recording industry to release a decent song?!

Question: I have the distinct impression that the very second a top-40 radio dj pushed play on a decent sounding song, a high-ranking label exec. somewhere would have a massive heart attack and die. How else would you explain the music industry's inability to put anything quality out in the last 10 yrs?

Yes, but wouldn't someone first have to write some music and lyrics, play some musical instruments and sing the song?

Anyone can bang out noise from a synthesizer or spin vinyl records backwards while cursing!

It would destroy the whole industry - cause then only good performers would succeed - which would cut off about 98% of all recording "artists".

crap sells, kids get dumber

Hallelujah!

I think your wright some of these songs don't make any sense at all I heard a song about lipglosss.chicken noodle soup those are some sad songs.

i disagree. there HAVE been a lot of good releases over the last 10 years. TONS of them, actually. few of them make it to the top 40 is all. that said, i've been buying INCREDIBLE music over the last 10 years.....intelligent, ground-breaking music.....out of the majors...not necessarily indies.

dj derick, WHAT? no....that's completely and totally wrong....you need to read a few industry books. :)

question asker: you should buy this book, it'll really open your eyes to how sleazed up this business is : moses avalon - confessions of a music producer.

In oder for your song to get airplay it must have some impact..a story someting really out of the ordinary that should get the attention of people.that's the whole music industry is all about!!!Executive producers Sucks!!!Hang The DJ!!!

If a top 40 DJ plays anything outside their "designated playlist" they usualy do not have a job for long, unfortunately now the DJ is pretty much the mouth only and has little or nothing to do with what is played in "hit radio".

Bit harsh. Plenty of good stuff out there, it just gets lost in the mire. Radio Stations need a good looking at here too, and retailers. First up, radio. Playlists are the biggest joke in music. Too many radio stations are so dumbed down that they'll only play a handful of songs during the day, of which a vast amount are more about the artist's exposure and popularity than musical content. But, they are solely after a bigger audience figure and so hit the lowest common denominator - take no risks, to not 'scare' off listeners. Ergo, 'reality' show winners, established acts and 'golden' oldies on loop all day. And then there's retail, who (outside of indie stores, who are being shat on more and more daily) will only stock guaranteed bankers, make up their own 'charts' and demand anything that's not a cert for free (yes, FREE). So, I feel a little for the record industry. Not because they are blameless, far from it, but because they cop all of the flak whereas it's not just them to blame. There's good stuff out there - you just gotta hunt.

I said tha very same words after viet nam war ended ,with only ah few good songs pr year then we discovered disco, then olivia newton john . in tha 50's &tha 60's i grew up with every kind of music imanagedable, back then radio stations would play independent artists, but to day its owned by big corps.,,,you have to be ah member now ah days, but its changin thanks to world wide internet, portable recordin studios,,,hang in there,,,,,,oll nick
