Question: A band had even a Guiness World record... which one was it?

Answers: A band had even a Guiness World record... which one was it?

The Who for many years, and also Deep Purple...

The Who were the last band listed as the record holder, at 126 decibels, measured at a distance of 32 metres from the speakers at a concert at Charlton Athletic Football Ground on 1976-05-31. Other previous record holders include Deep Purple (117 decibels), The Rolling Stones , and KISS.

But Spinal Tap's amplifiers go to 11, so they better watch out!
LOL

Edit - PinkFloyd1962...good thanks, now I just have to wait for 4 hours! How many points do I get? I need 15 to get to level 2...LOL

Socrates Johnson - Read the askers question very carefully...she said, "What band was considered the loudest one for a long time?" Man o War never held the title for a long time, and I this is straight from Wikipedia:
"The heavy metal band Manowar is one claimant of the title of "loudest band in the world", citing a measurement of 129.5 decibels in 1994 in Hanover. The Guinness Book of World Records once listed it as the record holder for the loudest musical performance for an earlier performance in 1984. However, Guinness does not recognize Manowar's later claim, because it no longer includes a category of loudest band, reportedly because it does not want to encourage ear damage...The Who were the last band listed as the record holder, at 126 decibels". Nice try guy!

For almost all of the 90's, Pantera.

Manowar! They are in the guinness book for achieving the highest decibel level for a band.

NO WAY! MANOWAR ACHIEVED 129.5 DECIBELS AND ARE THE CURRENT RECORD HOLDERS. YOU ARE WRONG!!!

In the 60s and 70s The Who's shows were much louder than anyone else at the time.

Edit: I just looked it up and Manowar did hit 129.5 decibels, but Guinness doesn't have a world record for loudest band anymore because they don't want to encourage ear damage, so The Who were the last to hold the record, but Manowar actually went higher than them.

Deep Purple!

The Village People-because noone wanted to hear them.

My guesses would be:

The Who
Metallica
Janis Joplin

that's just my opinion though

The Who held the world's record for "loudest rock band."

Gwar?

I remember one concert where Van Halen's amplifiers and speakers were extremely high; those were probably amassed at 1 & 1/2 stories high. Seriously, I'm not kidding - but who knows? Maybe they didn't use up all of the speakers (or they weren't turned up to their full potential), but coming from Van Halen, I doubt it.

The Who was billed as that for a while even holding the decibel record of 126 at one point but then Manowar actually took the world record from them with 129.5. Metallica also claimed to be the loudest band in the world at one time.

Come up with something HARDER next time!!! This was The WHO!!!!

LOUDEST BAND
A typical rock concert ranges from between 110 to a staggering 125 decibels. The loudest on record is The Who, at 126. Man-O-War claims to have reached 129.5 in 1994 and says Guinness refused to list it because they didn't want to encourage people to try and break it -- (a quick check of the Guinness website confirms they have no listing for loudest rock concert). However they do in one of my earlier guinness book of records they list The Who concert in Canada at 126 decs.
BORING unrock 'n' roll note:- ear damage starts at 80 decibels!! Yawn Yawn!

It's already been said, but it's The Who.

Hats off to the first person who said it.

deep purple...
