Yes I think I'm strange for being a 13 year old girl, as far as music goes..!
Question: I despise mtv...I listen to mostly the beatles, soundgarden, audioslave, rage against the machine, red hot chili peppers, radiohead, nirvana, stone temple pilots, alice in chains, and pearl jam. I play bass in my band...and can cover rhcp/flea, with slap bass and all. I also play guitar.
My question is, why are all of these girls obsessed with hannah montana, the jonas brothers, boys like girls, etc? It seems like it's all dumbed-down, with absolutely no meaning behind it.
Oh yeah, and I'm straight, if you were wondering.

Strange? I think it's strange that you posted the way you did but not strange to get into the bass at such an early age. Told my mom that I wanted a bass in 1973. They bought me a guitar. I was 13 and very PO'ed.

Every one has different tastes, some are just more ummm, how should i say.......dumb? i don't like Hanna Montana either. Don't stress about it, your uniqueness will come in handy when you meet a producer someday.
I'm 13 also, my favorite band is Nirvana, 2nd fav the Foo Fighters, I like everything you listed. One of my friends likes the same as me, but all of my other friends can't stop talking about Hannah Montana etc. I totally agree with you! They like the Jonas Brothers 'coz they're 'cute' (Not in my opinion!) I have no idea WHY on EARTH they like the other stuff... Not everyone will agree with me, but they are stupid. ((Is it me, or am I quoting you accidentally?)) Do your parents listen to what you like? My dad always listens to Pearl Jam and the Foo Fighters, I think it rubbed off on me...
You are a rare 13 year old, and more power to you. People are into that sort of music, because it's fun, poppy, redundant, and simple. It's not for all of us. Especially once you've heard the other bands you've listed above. At your age, people are often still exploring music, and figuring out what they like, so they go with what's in. When you get to high school, you'll find a lot more people who share your tastes, so don't worry! You're not alone. And keep playing instruments, I started bass at your age and flea was my idol! RHCP always has sweet bass lines. And keep playing guitar, it makes you a much better bassist. Don't change, and don't stop exploring music! There's just so much incredible music past what's popular today, and it keeps coming. (Btw, Radiohead is one of my all-time favorites. Anybody who listens to Radiohead at 13 is amazing).

Everyone has their own choices... being a musician probably has more to do with it than anything else.....
And,I bet you're smart and get good grades,right? I don't think you're strange at all,you just think outside the box,and that's good! Keep up your eclectic taste in music.Add a little classical,some Bob Dylan,Woody Guthrie and Bruce Springsteen ( yes,you can learn a lot from these old fogies,LOL) to the mix. Oh,and Tom Waits! Deep meaning to his music. Some opera is great,too.Look on You Tube.
i think it is good that you are differnent, i mostly listen to bands that no one knows anout in the US because they are from the UK. Hamma montana makes me really mad but i do like boys like girls but i am not obessed with them at all. i think that is great to have a unique taste in music, dont ever chang what you like just to fit in.
