Im buying a guitar next week. Should I start with an acoustic or an electric? Ca!

Question: Buying a new guitar. Haven't played a six string before. I have a little bass experience. I rock at guitar hero. haha. I love music and i just need to know which is the best one to start on. O' exact ideas for the first guitar are nice too. Acoustic or Electric.... You decide.

I think it's easier to go from acoustic to electric than it is to go from an electric solid-body back the other way. Get a nice acoustic guitar and learn to play well, then get yourself a solid-body electric.

Yeh, start with an acoustic. Then you can sell it on ebay once you get good and use the money to buy an electric!! rock on!

well, in my honest opinion i would say electric.
it has a much better, more powerful sound.
i play electric at school...its awesome!

but then again acoustic has a sweet sound to it :)
i've played acoustic before...its alright but electric is better!

and even better...
BASS GUITAR!

now that is awesome ?

Depends on your budget. You can get an acoustic for less than $100 at any pawn shop. You can get an electric for slightly more I guess but you will also have to worry about amps and stuff.

I'd say, if you can afford it, go for a Takamine Acoustic/Electric. It's a great beginner guitar; it has a decent sound, and the strings are remarkably comfortable.

Guitar Center lists one for $499.
I've seen them in stores for $300.
Check CraigsList you might get lucky!!

acoustic but buy a tiny electric guitar. Thats what i did and i rock!! *well maybe suck but oh well*

otay, first answerer nailed it on the "proper way", and I mean dat respectfully. But youz want to ROCK, so think about dis, when you hit an E chord, what is gonna sound the most powerful? and acoustic? or a Gibson Explorer (which the guitar hero get up looks like) going thru a MARSHALL STACK!?

Trust me, put everything on 10, stick the guitar up to the amp, let it start "feeding back", and try to rip the whammy bar of da' thing! youz will sound and look, totally cool! ... atleast for 15 seconds anyway. Then you start "tuning" and fiddling with pedals and stuff, trust me, there are some tricks to CYA when it comes to rocking ... also, distortion, distortion, distortion!

most people tell beginners to start with an acoustic, but anyway... if you wan't to play electric, why should you start with an acoustic? the only thing that will happen is, that you don't really like the sound, you start practicing less and finally stop playing at all... go for that what you like to play...

Get an acoustic, because acoustic is slightly harder so if u learn on an acoustic you can easily move to anelectric but its harder to do it the other way around. to lean on a fender is good. but if u want to get a bit pricier a Cole Clark is so good. i just brought one and they are the best sounding performance guitars. but if u havent played before go for the fender or even a Mortan:)

I have both. Alate 1920's Martin Concert series & an Electric Applause with a fender amp. It seemed easier to me to start with the acoustic, then go electric, that way your fingers are calloused & they are getting used to moving & doing the chords & rifts you want to do. RAY

Accoustic First.

My personal Favorite is the Takamine Jasmine, but if you want an accoustic-electric, go with either Epiphone or Martin & Co.

Rogue and Fender are NOT good accoustic makers compared to most other companies. Decent electric, but I personally think Fender is past its time.

Oh Yeah, Gibson is good too.

Buy a cheap acoustic that way if you do not stick with it you are not out much.
