Can I have my acoustic guitar rigged up with a pickup and electronics?!

Question: Like get one installed so it can be plugged in?

There are two alternatives to getting your acoustic through an amplifier, regardless of the manufacturer, and without a mic. The first is to have a transducer or piezo pickup installed inside your acoustic (usually under the bridge) with the input jack generally portruding at the bottom set pin on the body. This entails getting a tech to perform the surgery for you and can be quite expensive. The second option is to buy a sound hole pickup that literally fits into the sound hole on your guitar and plugs into the amp. Much less expense! The first option gives you a couple knobs on the guitar to fuss with (volume, tone, etc.) while the second is just a bar housing the pickup, and all adjustments are on the amplifier. An acoustic amp is made to voice the guitar with as little coloration as possible, but many prefer, or at least settle for, whatever amps they have and just find the optimal sound for their playing style.

Yes you can.

yeah, they make one that goes in the soundhole, and it has a chord that comes out of the pickup or something.

Pretty sad answers. Yes, you can get an acoustic Marshall amp. I have two actually but three acoustic guitars. The acoustic amps give off a more brighter tone and sound rather than just being unplugged and almost unheard in a large crowd.

If you're talking about modding an acoustic guitar to make it an electric acoustic, it can probably be done. Whether it's smart to do is another question. I would think drilling a hole into the body of the guitar might cause cracks.

I would recommend what another poster mentioned. You can buy a pickup with a cable and 1/4" jack attached that fits into the circular opening of the acoustic guitar. Check the link.

another sad answer but the sad answering poeple at least read the question before getting on their high horse lol.

Take it down ya local shop and the guy there will advise on kit. Shouldnt cost too much if you not after the top of the range stuff.

You can get hte pickup placed in the body of the guitar and the leads etc will come out of the back like in a standard electro acoustic.

if its a good acoustic then is it worth messing with? You could just mic it up instead and feed the mic to an amp.

my goodnes ! talk about some bad answers (:
yes you can have a pick up installed.
there are several models and brands. there is the less expenisive dean markley that just fits in the sound hole and the cable hangs out for you to hook to. then there is the nicer fishman model that come in plain and active meaning it has a battery that boost the out signal to the amp.
you can have a cable installed that will come out of the back gutar strap peg (you have to replace the current one,the new one doubles as a jack and a peg)
a good quality pick up and instalation by a pro is gonna cost about 150.00 the cheap do it yourself dean markley type is about 50.00
PS: Bufster has the right idea.

It is very expensive to get the electronics installed, as explained by Buffster above. It is almost worth shopping for a new one that is already rigged with a pick-up.

The sound hole pick-ups never worked that great for me. It is almost better to use a mic. Sometimes that is the way to get the best acoustic sound anyway, especially for recording.
