Why were a lot of Linkin Park lovers disappointed with "Minutes to Midnight!

Question: i do agree that its totally different and that their old stuff was better but hey mtm is still so friggin awesome. is it because their old stuff was the kind of music that hooked a lot of people onto listening to them?

btw if u hate them, dont answer or comment

I'm proud to admit that I've been a hardcore Linkin Park fan since they started. There isn't really a good reason NOT to be proud to admit that, as it is a little-known fact that they are the highest-selling band of this decade. Well over fifty million albums sold - so that makes me just one of the dozens of millions of people that love their music. Therefore Linkin Park are clearly a great band. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding.

That's my usual rant out of the way. Now my answer:

Hybrid Theory and Meteora are, in my eyes, flawless masterpieces. I love everything about those albums, and when Minutes To Midnight came out and I heard it for the first time, I thought "who are you and what have you done with Linkin Park?" I was disappointed because the music that I grew addicted to was gone, replaced by a more organic rock sound. I wasn't ready to accept this as my favourite band's new material. But after dozens of serious listens, it has grown on me. I've adjusted to the new stuff, and now there is only one song on there I don't like - In Between.

And anyway, it's not like they had gone completely soft. Just listen to Given Up and No More Sorrow. Two of the heaviest, most intense songs they've ever made.

I could go on and on and on for an hour or so about this, but I won't.

Sticking to your original question, at first I was disappointed with the album as it was such a huge change that I didn't want to happen, but as I listened to it more and more I started to like it, and now, I can't stop listening to it. I don't necessarily think their older stuff was "better", just different.

All that just for ten points. And I know the pathetic haters here will have a whinge and thumbs down me. Who gives a f**k. As long as I get my point across.

I liked their old albums alot, but then this new Minutes album came out, they released a whiny "Shadow of the day" song .. well, that just ruined the picture of Linkin Park.

Their songs have no energy in them anymore. :/

Generally, fans like the "older stuff" and don't like it when "newcomers fans" start to like their band.

People always say the old stuff is better.

i would give it a c- and thats pretty generous.
music quality and lyric-wise, yea, great album
but the way the album is set up and junk, iuno

they said they had tons more songs
i wish they wouldve used those.

well when they came into the music scene and released hybrid theory it was a new sound, much different to anything else out at the time. it was different, catchy and had loads of energy. generally really good songs that everybody could like.
when they released meteora it was the same sound but a bit more experimental, but still that good old linkin park sound.
when i got minutes to midnight i was so disappointed! the songs were much slower and more mellow, with stupid emo lyrics & not much energy at all.
the first 2 albums were all amazing songs, but minutes seemed like loads of just filler.
i still love them though!

I love Minutes To Midnight.
That's the album that actually got me hooked on Linkin Park rather than the other two.

Comparing Shadow of The Day, to some of their older stuff, you can see the difference.
The older stuff was the music that got their fans, changing it doesnt meen the fans will change what kind of music they like.

idk but i love the song bleed it out

the one and only thing to be kept in mind when being a fan is that change is inevitable. learn to accept new things and be open minded. when a person says their "older stuff' was better or greater, then they're the persons you need to be worried about if you're a true fan, because those people are posers. Minutes To Midnight is just as great as Hybrid Theory and Meteora, only different.

thumbs-down whores, i don't give a damn for what you want to do to my response, just do what you got to do, posers.

because it was a different sound. a complete different sound. it didn't sound like the linkin park everyone knew. some people don't like change. i on the other hand i like it sometimes. i think LP took a risk. i'm proud of the trying not to be limited and show everyone they can sing different styles. i liked MTM. granted it wasn't there best album but at least it didn't sound the same. like meteroa sounded just like hybird theory and if they made one just like that i think i would of liked it but get bored of it really quick. MTM kinda grows on you after a few listens. they weren't trying to change who they are or selling out they just were trying something new. they your trying to evolve. just a lot of people didn't want that.

Alright listen. I am definitely a Linkin Park "lover" if you want to call it that. They are the only band I really listen to and they are far and away my favourite band. And I am 17, not 12/13 like the first poster stated. I loved Meteora and Hybrid Theory. They were both true masterpieces. When I first heard M2M through youtube, I was like "WTF?" I bought it anyway, despite several warnings not to, being a bigtime fan. There are 7 good songs on the album, IMO, compared to the other two which have all good songs. It's not songs like "No More Sorrow" and "Given Up" that worry me, since they are intense and heavy (and haven't lost the energy), it's songs like "Leave Out All The Rest" that scare the crap out of me. What if they make their new album like this one? I would be so sad.

I have a belief that Fort Minor and Dead By Sunrise are taking Mike and Chester's time away from the band. Fort Minor I think is taking up enough of Mike's time that he can't stay with LP enough to write some guitar parts and the rap parts, so the album reflects more of Chester's stuff. Which is fine only because he has an excellent voice, but even with that, they are just another rock band now. It was the combination of Mike's rapping, the rock aspect, and Chester's singing that made them what they were...

I don't care about the great dissapointment that M2M was as long as they go back to their old sound, but, with each passing day, it seems less and less likely that they will.

ever since i'm not a fan but if you like it why bother.
everyone have different taste.

I think that anyone who was dissapointed with the m2m album are plain IDIOTS. I listned to all of their songs on the albu and i LOVED it. I think that the songs on this album really touched my heart because they are more about the human nature not just screaming.
If you like the m2m album then it just shows that you are a LINKIN PARK fan and not a fan of just their music

EDIT:
Sam, you are just jumping to conclusions cuz i'm 20 and i'm a huge fan of linkin park so you can just shut up for all you answer was worth.

there was a message of Linkin park being emo ._.
It kinda ruined their reputation, because it seems so much like mid-life crisis music o.o
Also, I dont like a lot of those m2m's songs, some, but not much.

Hope I helped~

How old are you? 13? Because all Linkin Park "fans" that you're talking about are 12 or 13.

Because nobody likes Linkin Park, and their new songs makes everyone hates them.

lovers? i'm not stikin likin park lover, fan maybe not freaking lover well because it sucked plain and simple out of their entire album each fan only like on an average about 5 songs as to where their previous albums did wonderful
