What is screamo?!

Question: I've been a metalhead since I was a kid, but what is this label screamo? Does it refer to any metal with death or screaming vocals? This term is new to me.

* Screamo isn't death metal or black metal. Death/black metal's vocals have growling. Screamo is basically emo with an approach on more aggressive sound with occasional screaming vocals. Underoath is an example of a screamo band with metal influences.
* Screamo takes lots of influences from post-hardcore and hardcore with emo. Screamo bands don't scream for all the songs; most of them have 3/4 singing and 1/4 screaming.
* If you're interested in this particular genre, I'd suggest you start listening to Thursday, an excellent example of screamo.

yes it is band's that scream practically say enter shikari?

Screamo relates particularly to screaming vocals, usually goes hand & hand with heavy guitar, bass, drums.

I love it.

emotional bands that scream.
i love it!!
try listening to chiodos, silverstein, the devil wears prada, or snapshots and streetlights.

kind of screaming and punkish at the same time.
listen to saosin or the song crank that(screamo)
i mean you know its just screaming with still normal singing in it too..
its really good listen to some of it.
=]

A mix between emo and hardcore punk (that sounds retarded together). Some poetic lyrics, thrash, an overwhelming crescendo...and don't forget the screaming vocals.

It also kind of borders on grindcore and post punk.

it does relate to the death and screaming.
"screamo"...isn't is obvious it has something to do with screaming?
Screamo has been described as "mixing the literate, poetic lyrics of emo punk with a harsher and more metallic brand of sonic thrash"
i mean, i can give you some examples of screamo..
Chiodos and Alesana are great for describing screamo.
Screamo was created from emo and hardcore punk. Characteristics of the genre are screaming vocals, harmonized guitars, and fast-paced riffs. Screamo has significant overlap with other genres like grindcore and even post rock. =]

From what I've experienced, "screamo" music is not the same as let's say Slipknot (which is a good band). More often than not, the term "screamo" music, at least that which I've been exposed to, has been somewhat interchangable with "emo" music which, with all due respect, usually sucks (enter My Chemical Romance). As far as I'm concerned, metal, even with the presence of screaming, is not the same thing as "screamo."

screamo is music that has alot of screaming in it...lol its like heavy metal

to me its emo songs but with screaming

i prefer listening to screamo than other rock genre even if people don't consider emo or screamo rock

like if youve heard a song and they literally start screaming the lyrics? thats screamo lol

screamo is some weird sounding scream/roar that people use in their songs. i think it sounds like crap, but that's just my opinion.
