There has not been a downfall of real music some of the best bands are about now you are just showing your age and ignorance my friend!

EDIT admitedly the charts are full of crap most of the time but if you just listen a little closer theres some absolutely brilliant bands and artist about and im 23 and I listen to music from the 60's right through to present day, so why cant old people appreciate new music if I can appreciate old music??? Stuck in the past is my only guess!

o hell no!!!it alll counts the past got us here and the 21st century is the biggest so far wether you no it o not.alll genres have been banging the music industrie.

No, popular music began its downfall in the 80s (although there was still some good music) and progressively got worse until it degenerated into the soulless dreck we have on the radio today. Although, there are some excellent bands and artists around, but you just have to search a little.

Throughout history there has been so much music that was unpopular in it's day, only to be hailed as masterpieces some time after - usually when the composer is dead & gone!!

can you define "REAL" music for me.

Rap is the downfall of real music in the 21st century. Rap sucks and so do rappers, holla!

Real music to me is heavy metal, and it's been getting better over the years. No downfall yet, because it's the only genre of music which requires real talent.
If you define real music by bands like U2 and The Beatles, then you're just stuck in the past and can't get along with music changing, too bad for you.

Sad but true. Kids have to much money these days and therefore they can afford to buy albums. When I was a kid we could afford the odd single. This means that most chart music is for the under 14's. They are more likely to be influenced by what the band is wearing rather than the music or the lyrics. Bring back real music as most of the artists today are karaoke singers who got lucky Most can;t write lyrics or play an instrument so that means they are not musicians.

The 21st Century has introduced more acts who are seemingly hell-bent on eradicating talent and emphasizing hype or image, but then again, every decade has done that since the advent of popular music.

The thing that really gets to me is this RnB genre.... RnB used to mean Rhythm and Blues, but now it seems to stand for Rap and Bollocks.

Or maybe I'm just getting old.

"Real"?

I've heard some incredibly innovative and rootsy music this century. Ozomatli, Rabanes, Hell On Heels, Steve Earle, Anna Phoebe and I enjoy them all quite a bit. Steve Earle alone has put out four CDs this century, and he's been around since the 1980s but keeps getting better.

That does not mean you would enjoy what I enjoy.

I can remember when Tommy James was considered bubblegum, and now people are taking another listen and realizing he was far more talented than credited.

All arts are subjective. If you like something, then it's good. If someone else likes something, it's good to them. At that point, your opinion counts for nothing.

Stick to what you like and leave the definitions to everyone.

I know what you mean, and I'm only 17. I must've been born a couple decades too late. ;)
But there are some good bands around nowadays, you just have to know where to look. Popular radio stations and top 40 hits aren't the place to look, that's for sure.

you have to experience everything in life........you find Beatles worth but you can't lis to it for long ........i think so Amy wine-house,Amy lee,Alicia keys,..........sounds pretty good
