Rhapsody.com lets you listen to like 30 songs a mo. for free
though you have to donload their little player software (not very big download) and make a name and password. I did this for a while just to find new music which worked quite well; they have a well laid out site that lets you search by artist or song or even lyrics in the song, but I especially like how once you look up a group, they tell you that bands followers, similar artists and older groups that that band was inspired by. Unfortunately when you're jumping around finding new stuff you like, it's easy to quickly use up your 30 songs. After that they only let you play 30 sec. clips of songs.
Trying to find a loop hole, I created another account and it actually work, and so I could actually listen to twice the songs a month.
