Rock was invented by Blacks?!

Question: I just saw a VH1 Black History Month program that is made to kiss *** to black people and since they were showing the "Heavy: the Story of Metal" it showed a black guy Corey Glover talking about how Rock was invented by Blacks, it will ALWAYS (huge emphasis on always) be Black, and that it will end with Black people.

I was just like WTF, what is this crap some dumbsheet talking about how Blacks should be given ALL the credit for Rock, and he was pushing his idea that Blacks will always be the fathers of Rock. The only Black person I know that was an icon in rock was Jimi Hendrix, and he was hated BY his own ppl BLACKS!

Why should it even matter who "invented" it. To tell you the truth I don't think anyone can "invent" music. It just happens. No one can even say who invented it. There coulda been some nobody in their bedroom with a guitar playing rock music. There's a difference between inventing and bringing it to the people.

Ever hear of Chuck Berry or Bo Diddley? Living Colour? Your seriously and idiot. And racist too. Where do you think Rock came from? It came from Blues. The majority of Blues musicians were African decendants. I know someone who is Black who listens to Rock and Rap. Were Pathetic? Go **** yourself loser.

you just don't remember far enough back, and yes the Black community is where Rock was born. do some research, Alan Freed brought it to the white community.

Most of the influence for Rock music came from Blues, which was a predominately Black genre.

None of this should really matter anyway. Music should transcend race.

Your wording makes you sound quite racist or ignorant at the very least. That may be your intention but I would like to advice you against it; you will earn no respect that way.

edit; I am by no means calling you a racist. I am saying that your wording makes you appear that way.

I agree somewhat.
I mean, it's great that blacks are being credited.
A lot of my black friends hate rock...
and a lot of blacks got pissed when Hendrix was playing "white music."

By the way, I'm not racist. It's just a point.

chuck berry...

Rock has nothing to do with race...BUT the first real rockers were white.

Same with rap. White people can rap (sometimes lol.) Race has nothing to do with rap BUT everyone knows it was invented by black people.

It's just culture I guess.

edit: I agree with you but you might sound racist to some people (even though you aren't).

edit: After reading other answers maybe I'm wrong...idk I'm gonna look this up later.

dude, chill out. jazz influenced the blues, and without the blues we wouldn't have gotten rock and roll. people like jerry lee lewis, and elvis, were influenced by the blues, and the beatles were influenced by muddy waters and chuck berry. also, the reason that rock and roll was originally called the devils music is because it originated when white kids started playing black music and their parents got pissed. the guys right on it's origination, but i'm not sure that it's gonna end up with black people playing rock again. anyhoo, do your research before you criticize someone like you just did.

Well, rock came from blues and there were a lot of black blues players. Haven't you ever heard of Chuck Berry? One of the first to play rock and roll.

Is there a problem with giving blacks credit?

When Mick Jagger and John Lennon came over here from england and were interviewed about their inspirations, the majority of them were black.. Unfortunately the black influence in rock has gone by the way side. You need to brush up on you rock n roll history.

i think it is time for you to get out from under your trailer, stop inhaling the fumes from the moonshine still, take off your camo, stop hitting on your sister, stop picking your meth scabs, stop eating varments, take of your KKK hood, and have some respect.

No one group of people "invented" rock music. In fact, you shouldn't really say it was invented at all. That implies that a person woke up one morning and said "Gee, I think I'll invent a new kind of music today!"

Rock (and rock 'n' roll), *evolved* from other forms of music, mostly from rhythm 'n' blues and blues. Rock has also been greatly influenced by jazz and even country & western.

I agree with what Cinnamon Grrrl said. It's all about the music. It's not about race.

The original, and best, blues artists were black.

Muddy Waters, Eric(?) Johnson, and B.B. King, were the inspiration for Clapton, Lennon, Townsend, and Van Halen

There is no denying that the blues was the father of rock.

I hate rap$hit too but the blues is owned by a few wonderful black musicians.

yea it was created by black people. it originated from blues.

well...
first there was the blacks who sand soul and stuff
then elvis came and he was kinda the first white "soul" singer except he was singing rock and that kinda started it

so the blacks started it but obviosly rock is not only gonna be black (hello, look at all the rock bands out there. how many are white???) and again dont agree with it will end with blacks

and does it really matter who started rock? why does it matter as long as we can listen to what we want to today?

are u watchin the history of metal?

cuz i am and funny thing they just said that.

kinda
has both in ways.

It rock was originally influenced by blues and country, blues being pretty much a black genre, obviously now a days rock sounds nothing like the blues or country but if you listen to bands like led zepplin you can defiantly hear the blues influence.
