I just started playing drums and my wrists really hurt. what should i do?!

Question: hey dude,

just keep at it. it will hurt for a bit but soon your wrists will strengthen. try holding the sticks a little looser but not too loose. if its really ba maybe strap your wrists lightly with tape or a bandage until your wrist gets stronger. don't give up though, it will just take some time xx

stupid question.
2 points, woot.

I'm all Advil.

Keep going, man. If you're using your wrists, you're doing something right. It's gonna kill for a week or two, but just like working out other parts of your body, your wrists have to get used to the new movement patterns you're experiencing.

generally, new drummers and percussionists tend to grip on to their sticks very firmly. That combined with little or no warmup routine could very well be the problem. The best way to approach the stroak is to use the same wrist motion as if you were dribbling a basketball. there should be absolutely no tension in the fingers, hands, wrists, arms, etc.

Ummm.. Stop beating off or try magnets they help circulation.
