Should i keep my guitarist?!

Question: so me and a friend been jamming for a while now, i guess he's my best friend. but he's not really that good at guitar. i'm like ahead of him musiclly, i can even play guitar better and i don't even think i'm that good!. i feel i wont get anywhere. he just plays power chords and doesnt care about his apearance(rockstars should) should i move on and find a band to join or build a band with the only guy i ever jammed with? btw we're childhood friends and he's tryin, but damn....

Many years ago, two guys from Newcastle had the same problem. One was a good guitarist, one was poor. A band wanted the good guitarist, but not the poor one. The good one would not join the band without his best freind. Fortunately, the band wanted the good guitarist enough to "put up with the other guy". Eventually that band split and the two freinds joined another band - The Shadows. The two guys were Hank Marvin and Bruce Welsh. Bruce Welsh was voted Musician of the Year in the sixties. He just needed to be surrounded by good players and given the chance to develop.

Its up to you, but your freind may well develop if he is given the chance, and the right environment - a band to play in.

ummm talk to him about it.

just try to help him out and all that be like dude were cool in all but u needa learn to play real stuff like me and u needa dress like me and he shouldnt get too mad

yeah rockstars dont give a f uck about appearance i bet youll sell out two days after your cd comes out..

Tell him out straight he needs to learn regular chords and lead stuff from a teacher, or from youtube (search Justin Sandercoe). If he still doesnt try to help out the band, you gotta move on.

I say it depends on what you are trying to do. If you want to have a successful music carreer, I would say get a new guitarist. If you just want to play just to jam or whatever let him stay. If you do let him go be easy and let him know you still want to jam and be friends but he just doesn't have what you need as far as a band goes.

Talk to him and if he doesn't get more motivated move on or just live a fantasy instead of making it reality. For Success you have to surround yourself with good people no matter what the venture.
