Being a guitarist myself it does open doors but if they detect even the slightest bit that you are not really doing it for the music and are just trying to get chicks then it will be a turnoff. Do it for the music or not at all.

Well that is just an aspect of you that girls would like, but it all depends on what you are truly like. Girls who like guys just for their looks or because they can play a guitar seem shallow. That is just my opinion. Just because someone plays a guitar, how much can that say about a person? Not much except for the assumption that they are passionate about music.
