Mozart or Mahler???!

Question: Mahler definitely! His music is rich, full of expression. His style is unique. He introduced new sounds to the music at the time (for instance he introduced sounds common in the popular culture into his orchestra: march tunes, woodwinds and percussion). Mahler was also an excellent conductor.

Mozart

Mozart - without a doubt! The man was a musical genius :)

No contest really. By the time Mahler came along, Bach, Handel, Haydn, Beethoven and Mozart had written all the melody. He had to satisfy himself with all the other combinations of notes.

i love mozart. his music is really inspiring and romantic.

Mozart

Assuming that the question is 'Who was the greater composer - Mozart or Mahler' the answer would be Mozart. He was a prolific genius whose music is universally loved. Mahler was a great composer too but not in the same league.

Mozart is my favourite compositor. He's a genius!

Mozart any day

Although I do like many of Mahler's works, it's Mozart, every time for me! You only have to listen to Mozart's 'Requiem', with the.Berliner Philharmoniker, conducted by Herbert Von Karajan, to be assured that you are listening to a great master.

These two great composers are so different in nearly every way, the question is meaningless.

Mahler although I like Mozart a lot.

I tend to listen to Mahler and go to live Mahler performances more than Mozart.

I'm with the guy who said they're too different.

However, I listen to a lot more Mahler than Mozart. Mozart is part of the foundation - his "Jupiter" symphony was my real introduction to orchestral music. Mahler touches me in a different place. The range and variety of emotion is, I think, more in tune with the modern world.

I would not recommend Mahler to someone just getting started with classical music. The ability to grasp 90 minute symphonies is something that comes with experience...

That said, Mozart was one of the great opera composers - Mahler can't touch him there (he never wrote an opera).

Mozart... Even though not enough of his stuff was minor.. But you gotta love him anyway!! Genius!!!!!

Mozart

My pref would be Mahler, but that's only because there is so much Mozart out there all the time; I just don't hear Mahler that often.
