What doeas the word chav mean?!
Question: This is a question that I wondered for such a long time, I had an English friend that mentioned it...
Chav is a derogatory slang word specific to the United Kingdom for a *group of people* that follow general fashion and attitude styles. There really isn't much of it in America, so if you're from here you probably don't know much about it... They generally wear tracksuits/polos/sportswear with cheap jewelry (imitation gold..."bling"), and fake designer clothing...most often "Burberry" which is a black, white, and red check pattern. As far as I've seen, their attitude is generally immature, snobby, troublemaking, and anti-social. They're just like the low-income, trashy thugs we have in America...just with a certain fashion-wave and stereotype.

Stereotypically, they are very rude, and hurl abuse at everyone, they live in Council houses/estates, they are associoated with crime and disorder.
I think "Chav" is the UK equivalent of "white trash" in the US.
