Why cant people just say yes or no instead of adding their 2 cents to a question!

Because there are very few things that are as simple as 'yes' and 'no'.
Because not all question can be answers with just yes or no!!

cos you want to give thoughtful answers to make sure that the asker fully and completely understands the answer to the question asked.
