Answers: What is the difference with alternative and/or rock (or metal and so on)? Im just not sure...

Alternative was started in the 80's as independent labels, garage bands, underground, indie rock, etc. Groups like Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains. They were basically the "alternative" to the "mainstream" rock bands on major labels. Through the 90's it became more popular and widespread with groups like Green Day, Blink 182, Matchbox 20, etc. Now, it seems like alternative more or less just refers to the sound of music, not the origins. It is kind of a general term used for Punk, Grunge, etc. But alternative rock was originally the "Alternative" not the mainstream.

Alternative rock seems to be more like Blink 182 (Minor amount of Stereotypically named "emo music" and rock, metal tends to have heavier vocals, drums, guitars and so on. Good metal bands are; Killswitch Engage, Atreyu, and DragonForce (Not to sure about them).

I think a good example of alt rock is the new wave of bands that are coming out of england... like Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, The Wombats, Cajun Dance Party, and Interpol (even though they from NYC)
They have the sound of oldschool rock from the 60's but with a diff twist on the music. What is the twist? I have no idea, maybe someone else can shead some light on the bands i just mentioned and why they sound so awsomely cool :D

Alternative like the name alternates. It's not one catchy beat the whole way through, it's not as predictable. There's alternative with a lot of genres like alt/rock and you have alt/pop too.
