How to play the drums?!

Question: I'm 14 and I DESPERATELY want to play the drums. I idolize Keith Moon and John Bonham. I was thinking of saving up for a junior drum kit to get for Christmas. I was just wondering from experienced drummers, how long does it take if you practise a lot to get good? And how hard is it starting out? Does it get easier? Also, is it difficult to co-ordinate each arm doing different things? Thanks for all the help and any more tips are MUCH appreciated! : )

cool! I'm also 14 and play the drums. Stick Control is the hardest part, definetly. It DEFINETLY gets easier if you practice a lot, like everything else in life. Also getting your hands and feet do all do different things at the same time can be very tough. But, like I said it gets a LOT easier with time. Also: I would reeeeally recommend taking lessons, at least just for the basics, like when you're learning how to play. Learning how to hold the sticks the right way and how to get the right sound out of the drums would have been really hard if I hadn't have been taking lessons. But drums are an AWESOME instrument!! Go Girl Drummers!!!

i suggest beating the **** out of pots and pans with spoons and spatulas

preferably around midnight.

i would suggest getting a nice 5 or 7 peice set to start out on and take some lessons to get fimilar with a drum set...don't get a junior set you'll grow out of em quickly

It will get easier I promise you. However, don't expect to play like a rock star within your first year of drumming. It really depends on how much you practice as well. Learning takes time. If you want to pass me your email, I'll gladly send you some material to help you start out. You can practice with your hands and legs before you get a set so you can get a head start

It took me about a day to get good.

For me, before I got a drum kit, I would practice having my feet and arms keeping steady beats. I would shake one hand really fast, move the other every 4 beats, and move a foot at every 2. Hand and Foot coordination is the hardest thing in drumming, but it's not all that hard.

hi im the drummer from summer's ice
it took me about 6 months but i practiced EVERYDAY
drummer of summers ice

I play drums for a band and guitar for another band. but anyway yeah it will only get easier after you get the coordination down but the hardest part , at least for me, was getting my feet to do differently than one another, but after getting that you should get allot better with practice. I started out on a 5 set and then gradually added on to it because i didn't have the money to get a whole new set.

Good Luck.
