Why do people hate the band U2? They rock!?!
Question: There seems to be quite a few people (at least here on Y!A) that hate the band. Not to worry though.....
If you're a devoted fan, I'm pretty sure you know they're doing OK. They still sell as many albums as anybody and they continue to sell out venues across the globe when they tour.
And this week, the band is releasing "U2 3D", a unique cinematic experience that marries innovative digital 3D imagery and 5.1 Surround Sound with the excitement of a live U2 concert – shot in South America during the final leg of their "Vertigo" tour. The film's production features the first 3-D multicamera live shoot, and the most 3-D cameras ever used in a single project.

I like U2. I think Bono does alot more with his daily life than the average person - so I can't hate on him.... "With or without you" and "walk on" are two of their best songs, imo.
I didn't know anybody hated them. They're still good, but I do think their old music was much better.
that's a matter of opinion, not fact. i personally think they're terrible - i liked them in the early 80's but once bono got his save the world god complex, they lost it for me.
U2 was my first concert, in 1993. They were an awesome band then. Their music in the 80's and early 90's was VERY good, most people now aren't familiar with that but only know their newer music which isn't nearly as good. I could go on about how they sold out but most bands do at some point or another.
U2 are amazing, one of the 50 greatest bands ever to walk the Planet...straight from Darth Maul.
To answer your question, it would seem a lot of people either take a personal dislike to Bono and his stances on social issues and/or they think the music shallow, uninspiring or over-commercialized. However, I don't believe that; they are a great band who has great lyrical quality; especially on their older albums.
basically cause people have different opinions and different tastes in music, not everyone is gonna like U2. but i like them. i likes especially how they do charity work, especially Bono. he's more than a rock star, he's also a humanitarian and he's been knighted by the queen for his efforts!
I don't hate U2. I think it's just a matter of taste and maybe the age difference. Most teenagers like bands that are closer to their age [with members in their 20s or something] and don't relate to older bands as much.
Some people just think that they are overrated.

seriously, bono has such a great emotion in his voice. i love them.
One of my fave bands. A Sort Of Homecoming is playing right now on an online radio station.
All bands that have huge exposure get hated on...
Back in the 80's when I was in high-school The Police were being played to death and I HATED them.
Now that I've grown up I love them. Once you grow up you learn to appreciate other genres and other artists.
I'm not saying everyone will like U2 in the future, but if you are open minded you can appreciate their body of work.
There will always be people who hate bands, people have different taste. Why do some people hate The Beatles? Why do some people hate Pink Floyd? Why do some people hate Radiohead? Some people like this, some people hate that.

Well, that's just my opinion but I love how Bono does a lot of charity work and really helps a lot of people.

I think some of us do not appreciate the work Bono has done on speaking on behalf of Africa,they just want him to be a musician, but since when is he not a citizen that is not responsible or needs to be concerned about what goes on in the world?? He is doing what he is supposed to do
I think they're awesome. Their best albums are Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby. I have to admit they were way better 10-15 years ago compared to now. But they're still awesome!
I respect their musicianship and its not that I don't like them but I am apathetic towards them.

i like U2 as a band alright. I own Joshua Tree and some other one with a weird name.
I do think Bono is kind of lame though. he just seems really into his "rock star' image.

Probably it's 'cuz some people just aren't fans of their personal politics. I'm not saying this on a personal level. I'm saying it 'cuz I speak from personal experience.
