Question about Aerosmith?!

Question: OK, I love aerosmith, and I love steven tylers voice and all, but I had a question, ok, why does his voice sound different (not different in a bad way), just different in there song called "dream on", it doesn't sound like all the rest of his singing. His singing sounds the same in all his songs I've heard, but in that one, he sounds different.I know it's one of the older songs, but still why would his voice be different? Thanks!

He intentionally used a different singing voice back then because he thought he needed to have more of a "blues" type voice. He did this mainly out of insecurity due to his lack of singing experience at the time (Dream On was one of the first songs Aerosmith recorded).

This is according to "Walk This Way: The Autobiography Of Aerosmith."

It has nothing to do with drugs and booze as Tyler was not a heavy user of either at the time.

it sounds kind of Zeppelin influenced.......the boys wrote it but it sounds like this was their attempt to make a Stairway type song

because he was an alcoholic junkie at the time...

A possibility with vocal changes that you can't rule out in Rock is drugs.

I agree that his voice is unique in that song. I think its because Steve Tyler sang "DREAM ON" as a Power Ballad. He has other songs where he occasionally sings similar notes but they arent as powerful or as consistent.
*** Or it could just be because it was written in something like 1974 ~ 44 years ago.....Man, how old is Steven Tyler anyways? ha ha ha
Whew!!!

Most people agree the drugs and booze affected his voice.

it depends on all the other songs you're saying you heard. are they newer songs you heard from recent Aerosmith.? if so he is older. i personally like the older stuff better...!!!

the amount of drugs he was taking mabey .

Dream On was recorded at a time when Aerosmith still made "Music"........

He Was much younger and had a stronger voice so stop hating on him and saying he was a druggie, that dosen't influence his voice

to get people to pay attention to the song.

In the fantastic biography, Walk This Way, Steven talks about how he consciously tried to change how his voice sounded for their first album, the album which has Dream On.
