Well it's real about all the abuse going on but it's not about any particular kid.
During this same pivotal period, Carroll finished writing "Alyssa Lies." He says a poem a friend wrote about child abuse inspired the song.
"It really struck a nerve," he explains. "I thought about writing it, and then I tried to put it out of my head. Two days later, I turned on the TV and saw a story on the news about [child abuse]. I said, 'Well, two times in two days, I'm definitely supposed to write this song.' It took me a week and a half to write the first verse and the chorus. Then, after that, I struggled to the point of migraines for a year and a half before I finally finished it."

unfortunately that kind of thing happens everyday. it is a very sad song.

yes unfortunatey it is a true story. he talked about writing it on cmt. he said it took him over 2yrs to write cause every time he sat down he just cried and couldnt do it. sorry but it is. its really sad that that kind of thing happens everyday. :(

but when i first heard, and listened closley to the lyrics i was like crying!
It was based on a poem written by his friend. Then he saw a case just like it on the news. He wrote the song based on those two events and the fact that it happens everyday and not much is done about it.
