Whenever i sing into my computer mic, it makes me sound whiny =S?!

Question: if i try to sing louder, i'll sound a bit like Pierre from Simple Plan (i dont really like them), whenever ppl talk to me about my singing voice, its usually positive with no complaints on "whininess".
Is this me or just my mic? its pretty old =S

if you want to record yourself singing on your computer often, get a better mic
that'll be part of the problem, but maybe not all of it --- people tend to be more critical on the internet, because they're hiding behind a username, don't have to say it to your face... so that's something to consider
but maybe they are being more honest... friends won't always point every flaw out...
of course i can't tell you without hearing whether it's just your mic or the way you're singing...
take a voice lesson if you're not sure... it certainly won't hurt

me too!

Maybe those people just don't want to tell you that you have a whiny voice

Garbage in garbage out. You need a decent mic. some light compression and reverb for computer recording. Computer recording is different than recording on tape. Its is very dry and unrevealing or rather too revealing and it needs to be compressed and some light reverb to warm the sound. The type of software can make a difference to. large condenser mics are best for recording vocals but you could use a dynamic mic also. For a 100 bucks a Shure 58

compression make you sound louder

note:
There is something called Analog/Digital converters.Good ones are very expensive and there is no substitute. they make the world of difference.

Maybe YOU just sound whiny to yourself. When you hear your voice played back to you, you think it sounds different than what you normally hear (because when we talk, we hear ourselves through bone vibrations too).

Your not singing in the proper way. Don't be afraid to open your mouth more. LONG VOWELS!!! That's your problem. Sing from your diaphrgm!!!
