just cause they lived up to them doesn't me they should've.

should have quit after And Justice for All...

oh definitely

Maybe they shouldn't live up to that though. Amirite?

That's really hard to answer, because I have mixed feelings about Metallica after all these years.

I admit it, I first got into them when I heard The Black Album (I was 10.) But as I grew older, I discovered Master, Lightning, and all the other classics (...And Justice For All being my all-time favorite). They were the band that I grew up on for years, but as I got older, I discovered a sad fact: things change with time.

Their disputes with Napster, their haircuts (I know it seems trivial, but it really shocked many people.) And to top it all off, St. Anger was honestly the biggest disappointment album I've ever encountered. Saying that, still, I remember what they formed in their earlier days, and take that into effect.

So to answer the ultimate question, I say they did. However much they seemed to have changed, their legacy can't be outweighed by new mistakes.

I think we need to stop and realize how long its really been since a really good album. Even Dave Mustaine in Megadeth doesn't do as well. Although Dave has been making better songs than metallica for years now. Snoop Dog still makes better albums than metallica and I dont listen to his music. Sad the 80's was many many years ago move on

**** it all and ****** no regrets.
Damage inc.......Master of puppets.

I wonder if they now regret becoming a bunch of ***** who have tried suing over things as daft as the name of lipstick!

I think they dont live up to their older lyrics at all which saddens me cos i am a die hard fan who likes them less and less each time they release yet another crappy new album.

Yes and no...
They'll never stop, and they'll never quit, that's for sure...
But they haven't been Metallica since 1988 at best (it was even kinda questionable then...)
